Just managed to sell an underused speedlight, so will be adding a smartflash to my ultrapro 300.

Looking for a decent strip box (on a budget though as have recently acquired the 70-200vr2). Ive already got a Bessel octa and beauty dish and will probably choose between the 120 and 160 strip box.

Does anybody have any real world experience of these (or any other strip boxes)?

Thanks for your help

Garry was using a couple of these on his studio day, on Sunday, with great effect, i'm sure there will be some examples coming on the thread shortly ;)

Cool, just seen some of the set up shots!

Just ordered my smartflash.....just need to decide on which strip box!

I have one of the older Lencarta ones that need assembling and its alright but I believe the newer pro fold ones (which is what Garry was using) are less hassle if you need to pack things away or transport it about. Now I have a better idea what I'm doing with mine I will hopefully get some good results although I don't have a grid for it so will need to invest in one.

The results from the non folding (Chiaro) and the folding (Profold) ones are the same, it's all about ease of use.

Except when I'm lighting wine bottles with them, I almost always use them for rim lighting, and a honeycomb grid is essential for that. Unfortunately the honeycombs are out of stock, but I'm chasing the boss on this like mad and am hoping to have some very soon.

Softbox honeycomb grids supplied with some cheaper makes simply don't work, they are typically designed with far too large holes and with far too shallow material.

Hi Garry.

This is exactly what I'll be using it for (rim)

I'm conscious of the pennies at the mo which is why I was looking at the Bessel (just ordered my smartflash today and recently a 70-200 vr2). I note that comes with a honeycomb but I wanted some real world experiences. From anyone that's used one. The Lencarta ones look good though.

Thanks

S
