It seems I need a new strip box. Apparently the duck tape on the corners is wearing thin.

Any suggestions for a good cheapish brand?

I'd like about 180 high and 40 or so wide, Bowens fit with eggcrate. My assistant would like it to be easy to fold and unfold. I'd like it to be inexpensive. If those are mutually exclusive then price wins.

Talk to me. Lencarta has just brought out a new 140 x 30 folding softbox if that size will do for you, and there's a honeycomb available for it too.

I haven't actually seen it yet but obviously I need to test things thoroughly as well as photograph them, so I'm getting one delivered to my studio... The people who come on the next Lencarta lighting workshop will be able to tell you all about it, and they'll be able to tell you about some other new stuff too...

I'll try to ring you on Monday, and if you answer your phone this time I'll be able to tell you more:)

Oh yeah, never noticed! lol

What's "%{" mean?

Cool - thanks.

Anybody used either of these? The Vf one looks awfully like the one I had - but I paid a lot less ;)

I can vouch for Bessel's quality.

Yeah, the Bessels that I have appear fine (thought they are not the strips).

Esp if they are for setting up and leaving up in a studio.

'k I splurged on the "easy" stripbox from Lencarta. It just arrived.

Like WOW. It really is easy to put up - what will my assistants moan about now? :)

Shorter and narrower than my old one (which I knew) - hopefully get some shots with it this week.

You're the lucky one. I thought I'd arranged for one of these folding strip softboxes to be sent to my own studio, as I need to photograph it, test it etc - but I left it off the order:'(

I'm right naffed off that I bought the old one before the collapsible one came out. I have not even used it yet and I wish I'd got the other one.

Sell it?

An unused strip box is going to be worth a significant fraction of a new one.

But sell it quick before some idiot tells people how good the folding one is :D

OK. I had a play with the Lencarta folding strip box.

I like it :)

Lots and lots of control due to the deep edge and because it's pretty narrow the egg crate holds relatively taught. Plus you can put it up and down in seconds.

I'd prefer a 180 so that I can light head to toe but probably won't get one until I find a folding 180 (hint, hint Garry). It also takes way more space in the boot than a regular one but I can live with that.

Here's a quick snap with it. ElitePro 600 with 140 X 30 folding softbox and grid _just_ out of frame to right. I'll retouch her forehead before presenting the image but this is the unworked version. Background is a hilite turned black side out and about 6 inches behind model. Note the lack of light spill :)

Glad you like it, thought you would:)

I'll point the decision maker to this thread, can't make any promises...

While you're chatting to the decision maker....maybe suggest plastic coating the rotation screw. Then I wouldn't burn my fingers.... :)
