Right guys

The time has come (and the £££) to buy a pair of strip boxes.

What's the general preference for full body use, I'd like to use them to create a rim light around the model by placing them behind the model blah blah blah.

There seem to be 2 popular lengths, 1.4 and 2.0 mtr length. When using the 2mtr boxes do you get a load of spill onto the floor too?
On the 1.4mtr....do you find you can't get the coverage?

Get some grids as well then you won't have to worry about spill.

If you're going to place them so that the light is travelling towards the camera then you'll definately need need the honeycombs.

1 4 m is fine for photographing people, even with a honeycomb fitted the light will spread out at about a 25 degree angle, so doesn't have to travel far before it's completely lit a human-size subject. 2m is theoretically OK too, but probably overkill - and the lighting may not be even because of the extra size.

Thanks for the replies guys

I had a wee play in a studio with some ungridded 1.4 meter boxes and I was losing light at the feet on full length and getting spill onto the floor during some other poses. Guess it's all about tweaking placement for each pose. But 1.4meter boxes with grids do seem to be the way to go.

The studio had some stands that were significantly higher than some of mine even when lowered fully, so that might be a help to getting the feet lit.

Garry, I'm asking a question regarding Lencarta boxes here, so pop your customer services hat on for a second please :)

The website seems to show 3, 140cm strip boxes and no grids, can you advise please as to which one will fit on an s fitting?

Cheers

This one is the non-folding version, it comes as standard with S-fit speedring and you can also get it with speedrings for other makes too.
This one is the folding version, it fits S-fit only at the moment - hope to change that soon.
The same honeycomb fits both versions, but unfortunately has sold out - more arriving soon

Cool, any idea on the lead time on the grids?

At the moment they'd be used for home shooting so tighter control is paramount.

Its just simply spill a lot if you have a 2meters length softbox, the physical size determines the light coverage. Have to use some grid if you want a more controlled light.
