Interesting shot. Is that done in post or was it taken like that?

And well done Gary - forced a lot of us to try something new :D

Some great captures. As I was scrolling through them , my favourite kept changing. Now I have no idea which one to pick

You have done an absolutely sterling job Gary.......many, many thanks for this hard work. It made me pick up my camera and go out for the first time in ages. There are some seriously brilliant images here...........what a talented bunch come here to TP!! I'm sure the judges will be very impressed.

Thanks again Gary.

It's easy when it's this much fun! :)

Gary.

Great Job well done Gary sorry not been about but Mary unwell and im looking after grandkids can only nip on now and then. :)

Having seen the £5 discount for Blurb for TP members, is there a Street Book In this?

OK, I've emailed the two judges, but as they're both in the US it may be a day or two before we hear anything.

Now that is a good idea:thumbs:

One way for everyone who submitted to get published. TP Publishing - I see the future.........

I was actually thinking that as these pictures were taken in December, they have a Christmas feel to them.

A monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly street comp like this could be an interesting way of comparing things round the year.

The winner takes the Front Cover, everyone is credited inside, but again, all photos taken with a set period, like the week or so on this one, to leave a kind of marker in time.

Just the things I think about.....

Will have to take some shots myself for the next one......

And I won't mention copyright.........;)

I like that idea. If we did this every 3 months forever and the best 50-100 were kept in a thread. Then over time we have lots of threads capturing how the times are changing. Be good if the final threads were kept next to each other forever.

More competitions please. I loved seeing everyones entries, was also good to see so many people get out and about with their cameras.

This thread is incredible, and has inspired me to plan a trip to London. In fact, I go there a lot for meetings so perhaps I will start taking my camera with me every time I go.

What would you guys say is a good lens to match with a Canon 400D for street shots? Someone recommended the Canon 135mm F2, which I can hire for 3 days for only £28, as I cannot afford to buy it. What do you think?

I don't think I will be confident enough to get too close to start so I think the 135mm will be a good choice. I have a wide angle for some close up shots if I get the confidence.

Keen to do more, but I don't think its fair on others for me to organise all the time. IF we can discuss a format, and the mods are happy (bearing in mind their already is another comp running monthly), then I would be keen to be involved.

Gary.

It depends on the type of shots you want to go for. I used 17-50 on crop in London and it was good but in Eastbourne ive needed something quite a bit longer for the street stuff I wanted.

Well done Gary and everyone else who helped out or contributed

I think a 3 monthly would be enough, maybe to coincide with the seasons.

Might even be worth a nominal entry fee to pay for the prizes ... maybe £1 per comp, thats only £4 per year, I'd be up for that :)

Cool thanks. I expected it was down to what type of shots you are after :)

Exactly. The wide angle is just so good when your trying to take sneaky shots because its easier to get what you want in the image, and you can always crop later. The longer lens is good when you have time and room to compose your shot. Ive been trying street portraits, this would be much easier with a longer lens.

If I am going to London, where are some good places to hang out to wait for some action?

I haven't done this before so I just hope that I don't lose loads of opportunities by not knowing what to look for. I guess I will only learn from trying though :)

My main problem is that my post processing skills suck :(

That should not be a main problem :) Other than a slight contrast boost and a sharpen, Street Shots should require very little processing. Black and White I think are easy too.

Gary.

The beauty of street is that you can crank up the ISO and not worry too much about noise. I found Covent Garden great fun for street photography.

Yeah Covent Garden was good. Duncan and I started off at enbankment, walked over the bridge, walked along then back over another and headed into the city. To be honest anywhere in the square mile is going to be good.

The guy in picture 2 looks like his got two horns sticking out of his head
