Love the Photos Pete the colour is cracking!

Is it me or does the reindeer look slightly psychotic ??

I would love to take part this weekend however I am on 12hr night shifts:( So I will follow the thread with interest....

Well I've been out, and after circling around town (Boston & then Skegness as well!) for hours, came back with a load of carp :shake: I just can't get access to the parts of town where the action is.

I'll go back to the shots a bit later tonight, just in case I missed a half decent one through frustration, otherwise I don't know if I'm going to get another chance before tomorrow night. Ahh well.

Well went out and how nerve racking was that. If nothing else it made me think seriously about using a long lens for this sort of togging. Using the 50mm was hard work and made it all the more nerve racking. Any ways my very very feeble first efforts and I know nothing in comparison to the excellent stuff in this thread but...

Well,

I am in awe at most of the entries so far. I still don't really understand, "what street is". I think subconscienciously, I see street as a collection of every day situations, as well as street portraits. The more emotion, the better. Eye contact seems to be a good way of getting emotion. Not sure if I am making sense or not, but I will go into in more depth later.

I watched the videos, and in one, it was deemed that "colour" detracts from Street photos. I feel in this set, the opposite was true. Therefore, my first set, is a colour one.

My second set, will be black and white, and will be posted later. I have to choose out of 75 B&W shots...(shortlisted from 250).

Could I have done better? Yes :D Am I going to enjoy trying harder the next time? YOU BET! :)

Gary.

You've gone all square Gary, good stuff there, esp #4 & #8 for me.

If anyone's looking for inspiration, there is a great collection here

I know were I'm going wrong  I just can't spot the shot, I'd have never seen the window writing in #8 Gary

:D

Good set Gary, I bet for the one way one you patently waited for someone to walk past in the wrong direction?

About 90 seconds! I got a few "sheep", but wanted the "rule breaker" :)

Announcement ...

Two fantastic street photographers, Joe Wigfall and Kramer O'Neill have both agreed to pick their favourites from the entries.

We'll need to collate all the final entries anonymously into one photo only thread for them to view once all the entries are in - is this easily done ??

Well done getting them to do it.

Shot 11 today.....in 5 1/2 hours

Missed a bloke going arse over tit in donkey sh8t, by a tenth.

ere, there's a lot of 85's kicking about in this thread :shake:
c'mon peeps, 50 is the absolute bear minimum for a proper go, you lot on crops are getting a blinding deal with that.

Surely theres no rule on lenses? Surelt thats a thing that makes our pictures unique. We all have different styles. I enjoyed shooting at 17 on crop most of the time and getting cheekily close but each to their own.

Well, there's street and there's street, photo's shot in the street and photo's where you are part of the street, you can't be part of the street at 85mm, and it shows.
I don't think Gary would want any rules, or he'd have said so, if peeps don't feel comfortable about shooting street at street lengths, 85 will do fine, it'll get folk out and shooting....build up a head of confidence steam...sorta.
I shot some today for the first time in a while, and with a new camera, 6feet just isn't close enough with it, I'm gonna have to get mashed or grow some gonads or something

Ok, I have to enter some as I have a stack of 'street' type stuff in Lightroom now. I am still classing them as 'new' as they are only a week old :p

1. The smoking man (with annoying people in the corners)

2. "Why they all going that way?"

3. Someone spotted the sweet stall

4. Sharing or just stealing (again annoying buggers in the corners of the frame)

5. "You want sheers?"

6. Or maybe a nice Chilli Salami (wish he has been looking at me)

All but the last two on the nifty, last two 10-20

I think the 85mm on FF is PERFECT for "Street Portraits". And not much else.

I think the 50 on FF, is better, but for some reason, I struggled to use it this week.

The 24 to 70, today, was I felt, perfect. I was able to get real close, and still get everything in. Loved it.

Gary.

50mm on FF is soooo perfect imho. I can really see why its used.

Good stuff dude but the highlights seems a bit flat.

Aye. I have tried to minimize any contrast boosting as some of them are suffering from a lot of noise (nearly all shot at 1600iso) and the slightest boost in contrast was making them look VERY grainy. I might have another whirl and try some dodging...see if I can do better :p

Well this is the first of my Black and White sets. Had a great time today, and really enjoyed the setup. Went armed with the 24 to 70. A big lens, but very well balanced with the D3. I was very confident today, and did not have any problems whatsoever!

I will try and post another black and white set before close of play!

1: The Champ

I feel the stance is like that of a battered boxer, ready to fall to his knees, but not quite yet. To continue walking with such obvious back pain, represents a strong fight.

On his feet until the end I bet. The girls laughing is typical of todays youth! God, I sound old ;-)

Gary.

The little girl, I wonder what the hell she is thinking. Was not sure if this or the last was most powerful.
