When wearing a t-shirt, the stap that came with my d5100 rubs against the back of my neck, making it sore. It's even worse in the summer, and that is with light lenses and a light camera. Having just received a rather heavy lens, I am worried a long day's walk-about is gonna really hurt!

Suggestions? Do I get a new strap (any pointers on which one is gratefully received) or is there some kind of padding I can retrofit?

Thanks ever so :-)

I use an Optech camera strap on my body and find the padding better than the standard strap.

Black Rapid also get good reviews...

OpTech straps are comfortable and reduce the weight a little too.

Thanks all. I'll investigate over the weekend :-)

Is here a shop I can go take a look at them, now that Jessops is no more? I have an LCE in town, but it's very small so might not stock much. London is a good place for me, if you have any suggestions....

I never wear the camera around my neck due to this problem, preferring to hang the trap off one shoulder. But I did try one of the lowepro padded straps and it was very comfortable. I would like to try one of the black rapid straps but don't like the idea of the camera hanging from the tripod lug of an after market grip.

I have tried every strap under the sun as I have some neck/shoulder problems and found the blackrapid straps are the best but not the cheapest.

Black Rapids are very good. The Op-tech `sling` version is decent for the price.

Any women out there with a Black Rapid woman's strap? I'm wondering if I should go for one over the standard RS-7 curve strap, or whether the RS-7 curve strap will do?

Cheers,
Cammie

I use Upstraps and have the camera on one shoulder. Because of the rubber grip they do not slip and have been great for years. There are different models and lengths with one being a bandolier type strap that will go across the body. These things are built to last.

Joby have not long brought these out as well, there is a male and female variant.

My wife has the womens strap but now has a rs sport
She didnt get on with it becouse it slips round when lifting the camera

Without being rude, are YOU curvy?

I am, and my Black Rapid womens strap is the best thing I have bought in the last year. It is brill and I don't know why I didn't get one sooner.

Yes - I have two and they are great. +1:thumbs:

Black Rapid RS-5 and the double 'DR-1' in use here, both very comfortable and bear the weight much better than the neck straps. They will comfortably carry the weight of the 1d + telecon + 100-400 and even with a monopod attached too.

For events like Goodwood FoS, the double strap is great for carrying the 1D with telephoto and the 5D with a wide angle - no back pain at all after a long day and no shoulder slippage to worry about.

I've got a Blackrapid R5 and it's very comfy, although I've found myself not using a strap at all recently during gig photography. I suppose if I was walking around with the camera always out I'd use it. It's got nifty little pockets on it for a phone and memory cards, etc. Seems to be worth the money, even though I've hardly used it at the moment.

I have just purchased a Carry Speed FS slim

It has the same kind of idea as the Joby in that you can tighten it up a bit so it sits closer under your arm, but when you need to bring it up into position, the strap loosens. I had a play with it on the common this morning, and although it's the first time out, i am glad i got it, as quite often i walk the dog, and need to be able to throw a ball for him, so the fact i can have the camera quite tight is a blessing.

I would have a look at them, i got mine from ebay.

Thanks to the ladies out there for your comments on whether the female version of the strap is recommended. Just bough one at the weekend and it should be here tomorrow , so will be able to go out and about and practice at the weekend. Can't wait!
