Can anyone suggest a comfortable strap for my D5100, preferably a shoulder strap.

Thanks

Hi Lawrence

I've just bought a Q-Strap single for my D7000 and it's very good, see the Q Strap thread in the traders forum to receive a TP forum discount.

I use the Blackrapid straps, for taking the weight of a big body and lens they are the best I have used. :)

I use both the BlackRapid R7 (D300 and grip) and Op-Tech (D90 and grip) straps and find them very comfortable. The Op-Tech is really a neck strap but the soft padding grips quite well and I carry a D90 on my shoulder without any fear of it sliding off whilst walking normally.

Hope that helps :)

I'd second the vote for a Q-strap.

I recently did a fair bit of research on shoulder straps and ended up making my own.

If you can't be bothered with DIY the Q strap is very good quality.

I suspect the extra that the Black Rapid strap costs is due to some aggressive patent bullying they seem to have been conducting and possibly also a fair bit of FUD marketing.

I want to get a new strap for my D90 but am just worried that with the sling type I might just knock the camera against something whilst walking.

Have any of you had problems with them? At present thinking of going for the optech pro straps but not sure.

Thanks

Got one of these just the other week:

Cost me about £2.50 (brand new etc) but had to wait about 2 weeks for delivery. You dont need to get it on bright nikon yellow though, they come in black as well if you want something more disrcrete :)

This is on my D90 and quite happy with it. Could have spent £50 on a black rapid etc but they seem so overpriced and you are paying for a name (ok, maybe a bit better than the one I ended up getting, but still...)

Suppose it depends on budget.

Not a bad price. Might just have to try it out.

I'm waiting on a low profile case to clip on to my strap for this reason.

It feels good quality - bettter than £2.50 anyway :), slightly 'elastic' neoprene (not too elastic though, just a little which is quite nice)
Might not have been this guy exactly there are a few from Shenzen though on FleaBay :) and I got mine from one of them.

Is it long. I am on the larger side so need one that is a bit longer.

As it happens I've just taken off my sling and put back my standard strap, I use my tripod a lot and got fed up of constantly swapping.

edit: I am contemplating an op/tech pro strap from better comfort and grip. Also the quick releases appeal.

Not having it with me, I reckon it's the same as the standard 'Nikon' black/yellow jobs that come with d3000/5/90's etc if that helps.
On fleabay i think it has dimensions possibly (?)

Not so far. I tend to push the camera behind me when I'm walking between locations so it's protected by my body. Not so easy with a long lens where the strap mounts to the lens itself but I tend to cradle those in my arms anyway ... and not walk too far :D
