Hiya.. I have a 1d mk2 and have just paid for a 300 2.8L that i should be recieving soon. Was wondering how others support theres when carrying the lens around etc. Do you just leave your strap on the body, and not support the lens, or do you move your strap to the points on the lens etc? or something else? Dont want to be busting any mounts lol!

Thanks :)

Rob

something that weighty i would support the lens. in theory if you had a small drop and caught the strap which was connected to the body the weight of the lens could damage mount.

The lens will have strap fixing points, that is what I would use.

On my big lenses I have adapted an Optech tripod strap and use that.

Yea thats what i was thinking..do you have a link for that strap? may need something longer/stronger etc.

Cheers for the input guys

I use this one, but I changed the nylon webbing and added a couple of plastic buckles so that I could use it on my lenses.

Optech Strap - they also do a plain black one.

Webbing and buckles I got from a horse tack supplier on the internet but I cannot find the link, there is a place called ace supplies but I think they only deal in quantity, if you google nylon webbing and buckles you will get loads come up.

Here you go I found the link ... typical :D LINKY

With my D3S/Nikon 300mm 2.8, the 'walkabout' set-up I use is the as-supplied webbing strap on the twin lens rings, and a Q Strap affixed to the tripod foot; I have the Q Strap over one shoulder, combo hanging down to my opposite side (my hand tends to pistol grip the lens tripod foot anyway - trusting nothing but gravity!) for 'ready' use, then when I'm done I hook the lens ring strap over the opposite shoulder to the Q Strap. Belt and braces? Almost!

Thanks for the help/info guys, much appreciated! think im going to go for a 'Black rapid' one that screws into the monopod mount on the lens.

Cheers
