Problem 1: On Saturday, my camera didn't let me take any pictures at all. I was in a nightclub and no matter what I did the light meter went from saying -2 to +2 in less than a second. Just wasn't happy at all. And the flash assist beam wasn't firing. Even on Manual Focus it wouldn't focus at all.
This happened in a nightclub, which was cold to start with and then gradually became very humid.

2) Without a flash attached, the hotshoe is fine. With a flash attached you can wobble the flash from side to side. This problem got worse over a few weeks, now seems to be staying the same.

Anyone any idea what could cause either of these problems?

Not sure about promlem 1 but on problem 2 it sounds like the mount on the actual flash is worn.

I only got in July 2007 though, and whilst the flash it put on every weekend I can't see it being worn. The weird thing is the flash works perfectly fine, it can just be moved whilst it's on the shoe.

Have you moved the flash exposure comp button, as for the AF assist beam try looking at the custom functions for the flash. You can turn the beam on and off in there, could be that, CF 12 in think.

Yeah moved the flash exposure comp button, and I also changed the shutter speed/aperture to get the meter to indicate a correct exposure and I soon as I tried taking a picture, the meter started going mental again.

The camera wouldn't focus using AF or MF. That was what a professional photographer told me after he'd spent 10mins trying to sort it out for me.

hmmm,

anychance that rapidly changing lighting conditions were causing the rapidly changing meter reading? nightclubs generally have pretty random lighting effect and even if you're not stood directly in the path of a strobe or spotlight then the ambient level of light is changing all the time.

Has the camera been ok since?

As for the focus, the focus assist won't activate when the camera is set to manual focus regardless as there's no point. Most cameras will struggle to AF in club situations as there is very little for them to latch on to unless you're using a flashgun that projects an AF assist pattern.

All in all, if the cameras been fine since then it was more than likely the ambient conditions in the club that were causing the problems.

Maybe condensation inside the camera was causing issues too if you were coming into a warm humid club after beinbg outside in the cold?

Personaly, I wouldn't fancy trying to suss out my camera in the state I'm normally in when I'm out clubbing lol ;)

Never had any trouble with rapidly changing lights before though, I work in clubs every weekend.
The camera had hours to acclimatise from colder to humid conditions, thats why I was so annoyed on the night.
But in the end it gave me time to dance (forgot how tiring that was!) and have lots of pictures taken lol.

Bump.
