Ok, I made up a panorama of 24 x 8mp images (which are 10mb each when saved as RAW), then saved the result as a TIFF.

Any ideas why this TIFF is over 500meg is size? :)

Is the file saved as a 16 bit tiff ?, that'd double size straight off...

Triple.

A RAW file contains only one set of information per pixel as a pixel on a sensor can only be one colour (red, green or blue). A TIF file has information for all three colours per pixel as the data is interpolated from surrounding pixels for the other two colours.

Steve.

Compared to an 8bit TIF the file size of a 16bit is roughly double.

RAW files are quite heavily compressed (lossless) anyway.
