For the past few days I have been finding tiny bits of what looked like yellow insect poo about 2/3mm long all over my car, It is not runny and can be flicked off when dry, I thought at first it was maybe some kind of insect infestation or possibly woodworm in my garage roof but found nothing there.

I have now discovered it is from what look like mayflies that are landing on my car with this stuff hanging from their rear end and they are leaving loads of it stuck on the black bonnet and roof, any idea what this is all about?

Or do they just like crapping on a warm car:D?

Sorry no pics as I do not have a macro lens.

Could it be eggs, a quick google of fly eggs show all sorts of shapes colours and sizes. May be that the surface is warm, or it could just be c**p :)

Hi Brian, I did think at first eggs but when fresh it is like a paste and dries hard with the heat off the black paint.

Mayflies shed a skin, could it be this?

Nope Gramps it doesn't look like it could be the shedding of a skin.

The flies were nowhere else but on my car

I don't know what they are leaving behind, but bugs are all over our black car only when it's clean. Always presumed they thought the reflection was water

your not going dogging before putting the car away are you

It sounds like Mayflys and their eggs can damage paint lacquer is left on for too long. It's most common on darker cars e.g. blue or black where the surfaces can reflect like water and attract the flies.

Washed it off my car 3 times in the past four days:) and now that I know where it is coming from it goes in the garage immediately I come home :)
