In the spirit of doing as much with film in a DIY fashion, I've been looking at making my own developer. After researching several variants of caffenol I took the plunge and had a go.
I have to say I'm quite impressed with the results, easy to make, cheap and the ingredients easy to come by.
Have a look at http://caffenol.blogspot.com/
for some ideas and better photographs.
Here are a couple of 4x5's on TXP 320 deved in Caffenol C-M as a starter.

I dev'd in one form of caffenol or another and, blue tint aside, I was very satisfied with the results

They have an odd stain/tint but the content is great, I might give caffenol a punt.
Do we know why focus is tapering away towards the top and bottom of that first one..?:)

Thanks, the focus tapering is due to me playing with the movements on the MPP, just tring to get differing effects.
Looking back at the negs, I am realy starting to like Caffenol as a developer.
Cheers,

Mart

I was thoroughly impressed with it. I scanned my negs in colour to demonstrate how it comes out to a friend.

One thing I wasnt prepared for was the smell. Coffee's good, soda crystals were nice... Mix them together and sweet mother of god, its horrendous :-D

With the stuff I was using the smell was not too bad, but I've heard it can be terrible :gag:

Those are very impressive results, thanks for showing them!

it works as a paper dev too (for kentmere RC pearl anyway.)

Thanks for the comments. I'm really impressed with Caffenol as a developer.
Last of the images, going to try some Delta 100 next.

Nice results. I've only tried developing paper with Caffeinol-C, with good results. Glad to see it works well on film too. How is the general sharpness as you blow the images up? I ask this as my experience is that Caffeinol-C accentuates grain without increasing image sharpness, if you get what I mean.

thanks for this! I will try it when my regular stuff runs out :)

Thanks for the comments, actually the sharpness is excellent with very little grain, but then these are LF so grain is rarely a problem. Out again today with Delta 100, will dev and post later as a comparison.
Cheers,
Mart

yep, used it a few times.

I also like to scan in colour as you can get some cool results, or turn them back to B&W if you like.
