Hi folks.
As some of you know, I spent last weekend in the Lakes. Kendal to be exact.
It was my mother's 65th birthday on Saturday, so we decided to treat her to a weekend away in the Lakes with the family. The images below are from that trip.
Not my finest work by any means, but bear in mind it was family time - and plans of early morning sunrise shots were scuppered by copious amounts of Guinness the night before!!!
Anyway, we arrived on Friday to a lovely hotel (Castle Green Hotel). chilled out in the pool and the bar and made plans for a trip out on Saturday. As we had my 3year old nephew with us (who is obsessed with Thomas the Tank Engine), we decided we would spend Saturday taking the ferry over to Haverthwaite before taking a trip on the steam train there.
To cut a long story short, hangovers and the fact that my sister seems unable to drive at any 'decent' speed meant we missed our scheduled ferry and had to settle with an Island cruise on Windermere instead.
Some lovely views - but bloody freezing.
Afterwards we had a nice walk around Windermere and Bowness, played air hockey (I won!) and then decided to head back to the hotel to let the kids play in the pool.
On the way back, Samuel (my son) decided he was getting very hungry. That led to a quick look for a layby / quiet car park so that my wife could breastfeed him.
Pulling into a carpark just outside of Windermere, I decided to quickly explore the area, complete with D80, whilst my wife fed Samuel in the car. There was a big hill that needed climbing.
Of course, it wasn't until I got to the top of the hill that I decided I needed my tripod. Wonderful views across Windermere in a lovely light too!!! Knackered from my initial climb, I descended - nearly slipped in a cow pat, nearly broke my ankle (I had Heeleys on NOT hiking boots!) and eventually got my tripod from the car. A climb back up revealed this view ....
... so i felt the effort was worth it.
By now the sun was going down. It gets dark earlier in November. Unfortunately no one had mentioned this to the stupid cyclist who was going along a windy, quiet road in the Lakes in the dark. Let's just say it's a good job the brakes are sharp otherwise I'd be scraping him out of the front grill !
After a quick dip in the pool and a check on the scores (happy days as the mackems got beat 5-0 ), it was time for us to head back to the bar for a meal and some celebratory drinks. Samuel made the effort to dress up and impress his grandma ....
That kind of automatically leads into Sunday (as the rest of Saturday involved whiskey, baileys, guinness and cards - and you're not seeing those pictures !!)
Sunday - a lovely autumn morning - set us up nicely for a walk to Kendal Castle. I have been to the lakes hundreds of times and never been there. Anyway, whilst Samuel had a good sleep, and his cousin played on the swings, the rest of us trotted up the hill to take in the views .... these were snapshots which I thought could benefit from a bit of HDR - apologies to those of you who are not fans.
From then on it was a trip into Kendal and ANOTHER bar for dinner. Grabbed this shot on the way out ....
After that, the family headed off to the toon, and we returned to sunny Altrincham - after sitting in the M6 car park for a good half an hour due to some roadworks near J32 !
Hope you enjoyed these - heading back to the lakes with some mates this weekend - will post full report when I get back!!!!
Cheers for looking.
