During Monday, temperatures will soar very rapidly, some places may reach 31C, making it the hottest day of the year so far. The heat combined with the ever increasing humidity is likely to cause some sharp showers to develop during the late morning, turning torrential and into thunderstorms during the afternoon. These are most likely across central and southern England & Wales. Also during the late morning and especially into the afternoon, a weather front approaches from the southwest. This is likely to trigger embedded thunderstorms in the rainband over the southwest, moving very slowly northeast. Another trough over western France is expected to develop several thunderstorms which during the evening hours may merge together to form a MCS, which is likely then to move into CS-SE England, and possibly into East Anglia too. The latest information suggests the possibility of gusty (possibly severe) winds, large hail, localised flooding and possibly a tornado. As the trough and weather front gradually get closer together during the evening, this is likely to increase rainfall rates and there may be some torrential, prolonged rainfall which could lead to flash flooding in the SW-CS England regions during this period. The storms will move into the Midlands and Wales by the end of this period, by which time it should turn drier in the southwest. As the situation is still uncertain, UKASF will monitor the situation throughout Monday and may issue updates if necessary.
