Storm Desmond

Hole appeared in the roof, now fixed.

Just hastily arranging a new place to hold our 3rd party audit as the original meeting place in Carlisle is well under water.

Apparently many in the USA appear to be under the misapprehension that Storm Desmond is the name chosen for the next Kardashian baby.............

That's too funny. :D

It's completely different here today. There's still a bit of a wind but there's blue sky and the sun is shining.

I hope you all got through it safely too. (y)

Astounding 24 hours rainfall figures from this event. I can't even mange that across 12 months here at Kent most years!

All the results of orographic rainfall rather than as a weather front moving through. Orographic rain is where mild and moist air that has a long fetch in from the Atlantic is forced to rise once it hits a mountainous area and then cooled down rapidly doing so and thus condensation takes place - a bit like a giant sponge being wrung dry. That's why it affected just the North West part of the UK while the rest of the country got off lightly.

There is another major weather event currently ongoing as I type this: http://icelandmonitor.mbl.is/news/news/2015/12/07/reykjavik_don_t_leave_the_house_after_5_pm/ That part of the world is a weather/photographer paradise but I wouldn't want to move there for the climate even as a weather enthusiast, I'm too old for any excitement. Thankfully the UK is expected to avoid this weather system.

We had a similar warning when we (the TP crew) were in Iceland in March. Fircone windy starts to describe it! As you say, it's a fabulous place to visit and has spectacular weather but it would get old pretty quickly.

At least she was completely unhurt...

Seems it was removed by the person who uploaded it to YouTube

I'll see if I can dig out another version

That'll teach her to keep her gratuitous advice to herself.

Nope - that didn't happen :)

Here;s the original version as seen on RTE and snagged from there. I'm told that folk were laughing merrily at it - watch for the man walking across behind her.

I was sent this link by a guy living in Dublin who said the reaction to her being buffeted bt the wind was truly hilarious

Not half as hilarious as her getting her face smacked.
