This storm is the worst for seven years.

I thought it might be interesting to see what's happening around the UK tomorrow with members posting local conditions. I think only those who live very close to the coast might get some photos because it won't be safe to drive any distance.

Rainradar..(Raintoday)..Yellow the lightest but not light, going into orange.The darker,the heavier. Any electric blues or worse..whites embedded is monsoon proportions
 
I wonder if I'll still have my wheelie bins by this time tomorrow?
 
This is a webcam at Freshwater Bay on the Isle of Wight. I've not seen it in the light yet. The waves usually get big here and can flood the road.

I do believe he may even have two cameras! SOOC but big crop so forgive the quality. Behind him are two of my friends who are into storm chasing - they are slightly tucked behind the wall.

I was away during the last storm, but there was footage on TV of a man with a child in front of this building where the child nearly got washed away. Unbelievably stupid!

Might be the worst storm in seven years in the South East of England but up here it's just two peg weather.
 
The Riponian Rally that we were due to marshal on Sunday (09-02-20) was cancelled on Thursday. The Forestry Commission decided they were going to close the forest off for public access on Sunday.
 
If we dont get through this its been a pleasure. We have a bit of a breeze here now. I hope we can get through it in one piece.
 
It's gusty here but no rain yet.

I've just been out to check the garden furniture, bins and plant tubs and everything's still in place.

I'm a bit worried about him down the road. He seems to be building something in his back yard and I think he's going to get rained off. He got a whole load of timber last week and this week there's been all sorts of deliveries from some outfit called "Exotic animals R us." They must have a buy one get one free on as he's getting two of everything.

Well, he was right..it wasn't a hurricane..Are you saying the Met Office have got this wrong ?..or that because of that October 15th 1987 forecast ? (that's 32 years 4 months ago) then they might have this one wrong too ? Did you look at the Netweather link ?

You may jest but if you are still from (ie live in) Prestwick you're forecast to have gusts of 60-70mph winds..down here 70-80mp

I'm not infront of a weather model,Dave but yes.. low winds at present..not so in the morning from about 8.00am. It hasn't hit yet.

Fair enough. It looked like you were being sceptical. .Tomorrow I will keep an eye especially on Prestwick :) Let's see what transpires.What seems to have transpired here is that we have now been given an amber warning. Earlier this evening it was yellow.

The wind is really noisy here (Gloucester). Every now and then I hear a loud thud like waves hitting a sea wall .I looked out of the back bedroom window just now and I see our wheelie bin has been blown across the patio and is on the edge of the pond. I need to get it into the garage. I don't want it going into the pond. I see Tori mentioned wheelie bins and you replied .Surely, you have wheelie bins ? Your sense of humour,I think

I'll get the wheelie bin now and turn in. Half an an hour ago I moved my car from the area of driveway infront of the living room (The drive is L shaped) and park it infront of the garage because in the February 2013 storm ..that was the last bad one..7 hyears ago as mentioned above..a ridge tile was lifted off the roof and blew down onto my wife's car. You may not have seen my post re this but the sodding insurance company charged me £50 because she's a named driver on my car insurance. Needless to say I didn't renew with them.

We do have wheelie bins....four of the bloody things:)

Even the dog won’t go out for pee up here , if it p***es indoors at least I know what’s for dinner .might go down the estuary later for high tide ??
 
Well it’s p***ing down here and windy, so off to the studio to clean the reception carpet and sort out a shed load of data whilest it’s empty, will cast my eye over the 6000+ slates on the tired roof as well, I hate the wind with a passion,
 
Laid the (empty) bin down last night and made sure the bike covers were tucked in under both wheels. Moved bird feeders to hooks where it's very unlikely they'll be blown off or used rubber bands (thanks, postie!) to close the top of more vulnerable hooks.

:LOL: 102km/hr at 10am at The Needles, gusting 122km/hr. Highest so far was a gust of 130.

Lots of ferries cancelled due to wind.

We half lost a branch a few weeks ago. It's been dangling and I was hoping it would finally break off... still waiting.
 
My daughter has just sent me pictures of flooded roads near Skipton, she says fields are lakes & the river has burst its banks....

As for the weather its a bit blowy here in MK-on-Mud but not a lot of rain is / has fallen.

How come you have 4 ? We have oine for household rubbish apart from what can be recycled and I pay foir a green wheelie bin..£42 a year, for garden waste as the tip is a 12 mile round trip ansd sometimes it's so busy it's best to take a sandwich and a flask of tea/coffee. . We also have a small food waste bin..just a wee one (I often use that word as my wife is from Ayrshire..7/8 miles east of Kilmarnock (Newmilns).. and lastly, a large bag with handles for paper and cardboard.

I do appreciate that 50-60- 70mph for Scotland isn't a big deal because fairly regularly, in winter, I see Atlantic lows travelling east across the top of Scotland, generally over the ocean ,maybe skirting over Thurso or actually passing over the Orkneys, at 100mph but never make the news for that reason...ie generally out over the ocean

Re those webcams in Scotland. When I say I couldn't find one that was live..they are listed as live but two were 3 years old, other were stills . I spent ages trying to find one that was live, even in the Highlands. Often just a photo and lots of ads re holidays up there but I've just found one on Skye and it has 4 views which rotate, one literally..lol. They're still on BST I see unless you are an hour ahead..lol. If Nicola Sturgeon gets her Independence then maybe she'll want a different time zone to accomodate the dark mornings and short daylight hours. It's why Westminster hasn't, to date, aligned with the rest of Europe..ie CET..Central European Time .

Had a gander at the webcam,.......it looks like someone is sitting on the blue bench in the lower right hand corner. A wet & wooly place to sit :)

Yes..I saw that (The Needles) Wow. Also 75mph on the Wirral (Merseyside) A gust of 94mph recorded by Fastnet Rock Lighthouse..southern tip of Ireland..about 1030. Aberdaron (NW Wales) gusting at 1030 to 84 mph Also reading that a flight from Oslo tried several times to land at Manchester, failed and returned to Oslo.
 
Up in the night ,small hours to get the watering can that was being blown around on the lawn sometimes hitting the summer house but could have hit the greenhouse but worse, had to get a heavy 6' fence panel down the side passage to avoid risking it being lifted. It was slotted into concrete posts too. and was lying across the pond rockery. It has happened before and that one was lifted out and carried 10' across the pond and a further 4' before landing on the lawn so with that in mind this one last night had to be put somewhere safe.Now my back hurts again.Ugh. Time for Iboprufen.

Still able to add an edit Now three panels of our neighbour's fence have blown into our side passage and one onto our patio.

I think that may be an upturned boat - hard to tell in the rain. There is a bench in a shelter just along from there. At very high tides and winds the water will wash over that bit. I watched also and decided it wasn't worth a trip at high tide, although I can see quite a few people sheltering by the building.
