Storing SLR camera

Just a very basic question...not sure if this will sound daft..

Just got a Tamrac Adventure 7 and have been looking images/videos on how to make best use of the space..

My question is, is it acceptable to store a SLR camera with a lens attached nose down i.e. lens touching the base of a bag with body at the top...Will this not cause undue pressure near the lens attachment site? Does anyone here actually store it in this way?

Whilst on this topic, can I also ask do we need to Ziploc a camera before putting it our bag after use? It's only because I had some condensation on my camera lens when I store it my car for few hours (during winters), which is when I read some where that it does help sealing the camera in an airtight bag to prevent condensation. From then, I really use Ziploc if I am putting my camera inside the bag for anymore than 15-20 mins.

Thanks for your inputs..

I've always put the camera with lens down in my lowepro offroad bag. Done that for the last 8 years and haven't had an issue with that. Though saying that, non of my lenses touch the bottom, the body is supported on the inner partitioning.

Regarding the ziploc, I guess it depends on your car as well. Again never had that issue but that is not to say it will never happen.

Same as me, the inserts support the camera but I do have it stored as you mention.
It says you have a D5000 which isn't a particularly heavy body, I presume it wouldn't put a lot of weight on the lens but I see why you queried it. Maybe some more people will come along who can say do or don't.

Intro 2020 (importers and service for Tamron) told me that many lenses are damaged from being stored in that way, and the bag being put down heavily or dropped. (My lens had jammed a few weeks after receiving it, due to a loose piece of plastic, not from mistreatment.)

Some lenses may be be heavy enough to flex their front cap, and abrade a filter, if fitted, when carried front-down.

I'm sure there are people on here with more expereince of this sort of thing than me but, TBH, I've been using SLRs since the 1970s and a DSLR for several years now, and I've never even though about how I store the camera with the lens attached. I haven't had any problems, but perhaps I've just been lucky?

You don't say how long you want to store your gear for, long storage periods I use Peli cases with pick and pluck foam.

intresting never even thought about this, I suppose if the camera and lens are supported and can not move around what harm can it do as all the forces are directed straight down so it is a even pressure all the time.

Interesting thoughts - I store my camera + lens in this way. It's only a plastic 550D, so not much weight going on!

Thanks a lot everybody for your thoughts. Really appreciate it. It's good to know how people do it normally.

Tried both ways this eveng on my Tamrac adv. 7 and it seemed alright. TBH I am still able to put body down first since my kit is minimal, but there may be a point I'll have to put lens down to maximise the space. So I see the reason why its done, though I am still not sure if this is the safest way.

Thanks again.
