storing bookmarks

i recall i lost 90% of all my Bookmarks some time ago
canna recall if it was an OS re-install, a FF re-install or a switch of browsers
anyway it was a royal PITA

using W10 and FF, I have a 100s of bookmarks - most with subfolders......

can I store them to a USB flash-drive.?

I did an 'export' once but could not do an 'import' to the new browser (whatever)

You should be able to export and import bookmarks quite easily. The exact format depends on the browser you're using.

If you use Google Chrome and a Google login, the bookmarks are stored in the cloud for use on any device you log in to.

I'm using...FF

I did export them once, but when 'importing' ...the file format was not recognised....

Just install a Free Add-on "XMarks" http://www.xmarks.com/ and you can keep all Bookmarks automatically backed up, And you can log-in from any Computer
to see and use your Bookmarks i.e. a Friends, at the Library, especially use when getting a new Computer just reinstall Xmarks and all your Bookmarks are back.

Used in parallel with "LastPass" https://lastpass.com/ to store and retrieve your Passwords FF becomes so easy to use.
