Edit My Images
Yes
Hi All,

I am currently looking into streamlining and tweaking my workflow before it get too messy and I have too many images to sort.

My current very simplified workflow is:

Card into MacBook
Copy image on the iOS to Pictures>2015>*Photoshoot Name (TalkPhotography)*
Open Lightroom
Add images to library
Sort through images etc
Edit my select images
Export as JPEG to Pictures>2015>*Photoshoot Name (TalkPhotography)*>JPEG Final Edits

This way I have the original RAWS in the Photoshoot folder, and the JPEG Finals in folder within the Photoshoot folder.

That means I have 2 of every image and keep the original RAWS incase I wanted to edit differently in future.

Is this necessary? Or is it just taking up storage?

My ultimate question is what do you do, I know its personal generally speaking but just after peoples thoughts.

Can you type me out your general folder structure for a shoot?

Thank you

Card into card-reader connected to Mac Pro desktop
Import into Lightroom which involves:
- Copy to external drive
- Copy backup to external drive #2 (so now 2 copies of the RAW image files, on different drives
Main external drive is cloned each day to a network drive, so now 3 copies of each RAW image
Edit images in Lightroom
Export jpgs as needed to Mac Pro hard drive under location name (I shoot travel so I export to location-named folders rather than the *Photoshoot Name (TalkPhotography)* you use, but that's a minor difference

So I have 3 copies of RAW files, each on a different drove, plus any edited jpgs that I need.

I would rather use redundant storage than risk losing my images to a drive failure!

On your Mac Desktop do you keep the RAWs or only the JPEGs?

No, it's not necessary. Create the jpeg and use it (print it, email it or put it on the web) then delete it. It's simple to regenerate the identical jpeg from the raw. Alternatively, store the jpegs in the cloud, where they're easily accesible and it don't matter if they get lost (because you can regenerate them).
