Apologies if this has been posted before, but it's worth watching

Yeah its been posted before, just shows how the police sometimes don't know anything about the law surrounding photography in public.

worth a look ... just goes to show where were headed ...

A couple of years ago, I was wrongly given a parking ticket by a traffic warden. He was still there and when I approached him he was, unsurprisingly, rude and dismissive. I was walking back to my car seething when I noticed he was taking photos of the number plates. “Good idea!”, I thought and walked back with my phone and started to photograph him. He was very upset and threatened to take the camera off me.

This is when it started to get silly, I said “you and who’s ***** army?” and he knocked the phone out of my hand. I pushed him away and he instantly got on the radio screaming that he was being assaulted.

The police arrived soon after and even though he was pushing for charges of assault, no charges were pressed.

I wish I hadn’t pushed him away now and called the police myself, but I don’t suppose I would have got anywhere.

It’s those peaked caps, give a monkey a crown and he thinks he’s a king.

Pathetic isn't it, and to think that we the public pay for this dumb behaviour.
Just say you are a tourist and it will be fine.

Had only seen the 1st and last scenarios in there....sums it up nicely!!

Seems like a solution for us togs to me - befriend a solicitor and have him/her on speed-dial!

The amount of times I've been hassled by traffic wardens around Leicester is extraordinary. Never been given a ticket though because I rush back to the car in time

However there was one crossing the road in front of me a few weeks ago when I was doing around 35mph, the temptation to speed up was unbearable :p

Well that gave me a little chuckle thanks for sharing.

Interesting that there seems to have been very few if any instances if this police/security stopping photographers on the street recently. Seems there was a sudden rush of them and now it seems to have died off.

I have never had any problems whilst out taking photos. Even pushing out luck trying to get shots from the top floor of a car park in Manchester the other day the security guard was fine and just did "its private property, you need to leave" blurb, but then said "have you got all the shots you wanted? if not you can have a few minutes to finish off" then started having a chat with us about all sorts. Police in the middle of Manchester were fine too chatting to us etc. I think one even got a TP moo card from Marcel :p

Up here the main problem is the rent-a-cop types, as ShawWellPete says, give a monkey a crown and he thinks he’s a king...

i got called over by a bobby this sunday and asked a few questions. nothing became of it but, as a rather shy chap I felt very intimidated and could feel myself flushing up. I felt embarressed having to be questioned in front of crowds of people like a criminal. It upset what should have been a nice day out.
this is the photo i took, at an emergency services charity towing event of all things, police and firemen and ambulance crews all over the place. funny thing is i was standing next to the official police togger :cuckoo:

I've never had problems in Manchester, in fact, at the Anti war protest on Saturday, at one point I was walking against the flow and a cop asked me "Where are you going?" then caught a glimpse of my camera and moved out of my way

I have never had any issues with being approached by police, however, as FitP suggests, the wannabe police - now that's a different matter.

I was in Paddington station taking some shots, had all the passes, permissions etc, and had even been chatting to the police who came over to see what I was doing, and were nothing but incredibly helpful and polite - when shortly after the police had 'moved on', two security guards came over to me in a 'whatcha think youre doing then pal' manner. I just carried on taking shots, they insisted I wasn't permitted to take shots despite the fact I had an official pass and had signed in at reception. I decided to debate the matter with them, and they were adamant. The funny thing was, just then I spotted the two policemen coming along again, they saw me and must have realised I was having a great time (and that the two wannabees were jerks), laughed to themselves making sure I saw them, and walked off...!! :) I creased and the two wannabees had no idea what I was laughing at until I said... "go on then pals, go and get the police, I don't give a ****. Look, there's two policemen there, go and get them". They looked over towards the policemen, saw that they were both laughing and poking fun at them, and decided to leave me alone.

Boy did I have a great look on my face! :)

Interesting, but I have to wonder how many of those peopke were baiting to get a response. Particularly the guy who just so happened to have a megaphone in his back pocket

Of course they were baiting the authority figures for a response but once they got that response it proves that the Police and Security guards have no idea of the law half the time.
As an aside I often photograph at railway stations and a quick question asking permission to take shots is always met with a Yes and a "Hope you get some good shots"

Sometimes it takes drastic (but legal) action to get the point across to these jobsworths who have no clue of the law. Yes of course he was baiting the security guy, but said guy got exactly what he deserved. I only wish that to$$er who tried to detain two people in the last clip received the same treatment. What an absolute idiot.

As Flash in the Pan correctly stated in a separate thread, give a monkey a cap and they think they're king.

Re: the security guy - I wonder what would happen if you allowed him to detain you or ask him to take you to the cop shop - could you attempt to sue him for 'wrongful arrest' or something similar. :D

I wonder if he can be identified... would love him to come on here and see what people actually think of him.

In honour of this thread (and your funny law enforcement people, [you crazy English, you]) I post this picture of me and my sister in the most public, open place downtown. The local police were kind enough to pose with us. The 4th officer is taking the picture!

;)
