Hi everyone,

Sorry to bring this up here as I know I dont post too often, however.

I was out this evening in Salford doing some work for a friend on an art project he is working on when we were mugged and my camera taken, we are all luckily unhurt and the police have been informed.

Just letting you know that there is probably some stolen equipment doing the rounds and to be careful before you buy anything second hand,

The gear stolen was a Nikon D40, Tamrom 55-200 lens with a cheap wide angle attachment on the end.

If anyone does see this crop up in the Manchester area could you please drop me a PM and I will inform the police.

Many Thanks

Rob

Sorry to hear this, luckily no one was hurt.
I could go into what should be done to them if caught but that won't help anyone.
Was the kit insured ?

Sorry to hear that. Keep an eye out on Gumtree/eBay etc just incase it pops up.

im not sure if it was insured individually, all of my contents are insured with my halls of residence company at university so hopefully that will be covered in it as well. Will speak to them on monday when the office reopens

Thanks for the tips with ebay and gumtree, will keep my eyes open for if it turns up on there

Bad news to hear. glad your ok. Ill keep my eye out for you.

cameras can be replaced - glad to hear you are ok

maybe worth checking if you have a local "freebie" newspaper for classifieds, and even the local pawn shops ---- these scum are usually on the lookout for their next fix, and will offload the goods asap to get some cash

Or check 'loot' (apt name)

Really sorry to hear that, I shoot there quite regularly and I've not had a problem so I'm truly sorry to hear of your problem. I'll keep my eyes open for sure.

There is a shop almost next to Piccadilly Station that takes 2nd hand goods and if you have the serial No it may be worth a trip.

cheers for the tip Ali, will be doing a tour of these types of shops tommorow to see if anything turns up, I dont think I have the serial number written down anywhere, is it possible to grab this off the exif of one of my shots?

really sorry to hear that m8

some scrote burgled my parents recently - nicked a handbag and cards and a samsung NC10 netbook - sneak thief ran in through back door.

Thankfully - you & your mate are OK - kit can be replaced

Check your local cash converters or similar stores.

Regarding the serial number - do you still have the yellow warranty slip for the body and lens? It's on there if you do.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune, as has been said keep an eye out in the local second-hand shops. Hope you manage to get it back.

cheers for all the help guys,

I think I still have the yellow warrantly slip somewhere will have to dig it out.

Sorry to hear this rjwilki3.

Thieves are scum, it takes a lot of hardship and sacrifice for some to obtain gear, and some ****** comes and thinks he can take it.

:bang: :bang: have some of that!!!!!!!!!

Yes :) My serial numbers show up in Adobe Bridge. If you have any trouble getting it let me know and you can email me a pic and I'll try to get it for you.

try the cash convertors in Eccles & salford shopping precinct

been told by a few that these are the usual places where these scumbags head for in the salford area. looking fir a quick sale then they could be there by tomorrow

sorry to hear about your misfortune and hope you get your gear either back or replaced

also check out The Real Camera Co, i think its on dale street in manchester - they deal in 2nd hand gear.

it's a nightmare... you can't have anything these days - glad you're ok though pal.

The guys at the RCC are good guys and won't have anything to do with hooky gear. They specialise in Leicas and Blads. :) Proper good stuff :)

If this happened to me let's just say it wouldn't be me who was getting mugged.

Sorry to hear this happened to ya RJ, I hope justice happens for you .

Just a quick update,

Been at the police station this morning and they have taken statements from me and Tom. They have done everything they can to help us which is good and have said they will help me to recover it if it shows up in any second hand shops

so a big thanks to everyone here for your words of support, and a big thanks to Greater Manchester Police for doing everything they can.

I dont think I have the serial number written down anywhere

Did you not register the camera online with Nikon when you bought it? Nikon keeps all my serial numbers safe, secure and backed up on their servers. :)

Tis what I will be doing, plus my insurance company hold them all too :)

bad show...glad you are ok...

you have been given all the possible places where stuff goes...without the serial numbers though it could be difficult to check and item on sale

hope you get some closure on this...gear or justice

I was wondering I bought a second hand camera is it possible for me to register it or get it insured?

Nikon had no problem letting me enter the serial number of the used D200 I bought. In fact, oddly enough, it had no problem letting me enter the US serial number of my 300mm f/4 AF-S (which I bought new while in the US) on the UK site either.

Really sorry to hear about your misfortune. It wasn't Salford Quays was it as I have just moved to Manchester and was planning a little photo shoot there.

i think i would have smashed them round the head with the camera rather than let them have it
glad you are both ok though and hope you get your kit back

no it was not in the Quays, from all accounts that is a nice area and really god to go to and get some shots. Was up near the Salford shopping precinct. We were after some Urban Grime type shots so decided to head up there, shall not be doing that again.

should be fine down by the Quays

Sorry to hear abiut the theft.
I'd have fought to the death to hang on to my gear and if that failed, poisened them with my corpse:D
