STOLEN D3s + D300s & more :(

While we're at it, serious criminals could be pilloried or better yet stuck in small cages at the town marker and allowed to rot...though the smell of decaying child-molester might put people off visiting...

I think outsourcing the Prisons to India or Pakistan would be better...

Send them out to where you are and let them do the mine searching by hand.

excellent, my d3 and 24-70 is currently sat on my desk and I'm sure I can hear it begging me to take it out in the snow :D

Hacker - you're an absolute gent. I missed you're offer first time around but that is SO kind of you to offer me your kit.

However as of yesterday I now have another new D3s and 24-70. I bought them out of my own pocket and am just waiting (praying) for the the cheque to come from the insurers!!

Obviously I'm still down a body and a couple of lenses (and tripod etc) but I have my baby back and the rest will come in time. :)

For the record I'm not keeping my kit at home anymore. Fortunately I have a couple of places I can keep it away from home that isn't too far away should I need it in a hurry. And they are places where there are people 24/7

As always - will update further as and when.

hmm, that's not a bad idea, was just going to nip to my local woods but you've got me thinking now

Update 29/12/09

Morning all. Yesterday I realised I'd missed an e-mail from the loss adjustor with a letter attached. Here's the bulk of it

As discussed, we confirm the equipment stolen from your home is covered by the policy and enquiries are in hand to agree costs. We will contact you further in this respect.

In relation to the items stolen from the boot of your car, unfortunately, as they were taken out of business hours, as a photographer and no forcible and violent entry was involved, the items 1 – 4 on the claim form are
specifically excluded.

So things are progressing and I'll be calling them soon for a further update - in the meantime I have to replace my tripod stuff and reflector myself. Still, it could be worse.

All the best

Ryan.

P.S If you know about tripods see here :-

All the best for the rest of the claim.

Great news that you're pretty much covered.

I've actually just spent the morning cataloging every piece of camera equipment I own and taking pictures of it all. Just need to sort insurance now as wouldn't want to claim on contents insurance for my camera gear.

Ryan, after 10 pages of posts, I,ve only just read about your misfortune. Looks like you are able to get most of your losses back, which is better than nothing. Hope they catch the b'stards though.

Must meet up again in the new year. Good luck mate,

Nige.

What about your car insurance, would it cover the contents of the boot?

Mate - that was almost a pefect suggestion. I knew my car insurers wouldn't be interested as they had alread told me that they only cover £100 of personal belongings in the car.

SO - yesterday evening I tried my home insurers. They had already agreed to pay out for the overnight bag full of clothes in the car and my CDs. So I told them about my dilemma with the stuff in the boot (tripod/reflector) and they agreed to pay out there and then. I emailed them copies of the receipts last night and links to the replacement kit on warehouse express' website. (Apparently their preferred supplier for stolen camera kit is Argos ).

Looks like I may be ok after all.

Cheers

Ryan

Cheers Nige,

Would be great to catch up (think I'm gonna need a second shooter too this year if you're keen).

Awesomely good news there mate...good to see a happy outcome to all of this...

Fabulous news Ryan so pleased that despite all the personal pain at least you won't be out of pocket. Enjoy that D3 :)

I will definitley keep a watch I had a whole camera bag go on holiday once

its s*** when this happens I hope you get them back

Well good news to end the year on, now all we want is the gits responsable caught for a truly happy ending.
Am I right in thinking you got your car back??

No mate - no car :(

Yesterday I sent a bunch of documents the car insurers wanted. Hopefully I'll hear something in the next year or two.

Thanks mate. The answer is "yes i do"! Do you wnt to PM me?

Ryan,

I glad things are working out for you. I never had doubts about the camera ins. from what I read online.

Hope car claim goes well. If you need any assistance, let me know. Do your own reaearch on value and be prepared to reject their first offer if it doesn't match your research.

Another Update.

Last night at 7:40 Cambs police called to say my car has been recovered!! It was found in Stevenage* and is being held by a recovery company down there. Apparently Scenes Of Crime are going to see it today/tomorrow. The recovery firm told me the car appears to be undamaged but they have stolen the stereo. They haven#t been in the car yet because it's locked so I don't know if the stuff in the boot is still there or not.

* No surprise to me that the car was found in Stevenage. Prime suspect #1 (my cleint from work) was "staying with friends" down there.

Sigh.....

Had a look in cash converters in Stevenage on saturday no the off chance but nothing.

I know when my mate had all his fishing gear nicked my son found it in there .
They keep it for a few weeks before they put it up for sale apparently.
All the best with the car anyway.

Ray.

Hopefully they've been stupid enough to leave fingerprints or some trail back to them Ryan.

Be honest now, how suprised would you be if the gear was still in the boot, but you never now :)

Best of luck with it mate.

very sorry to hear this.

you shouldnt of said it was your fault for leaving keys in your pocket, it wasnt.
your employer has a duty of care for you and your belongings and they shouldt have you leave your coat in a area open to the public.
your employer should also be held accountable for security arrangements and your safety.
which has been compramised now your house has beeen burgled

i hope it all comes good for you in the end

Yep Lockers

VERY surprised. And the new tripod and head arrived yesterday so and I'd really reather keep them now :)

Been watching this thread and I'm glad to see you're getting somewhere with it. Let's hope your gear is in the boot still and that there is some form of evidence towards the people who did it.

Just make sure you get the car properly checked over. whilst it seems undamaged, mechanics, tyres, etc. etc. could be damaged. And also speed camera shots.......

:agree:
Lost count of the number of times we've recovered stolen cars only to find that the brakes are worn out or clutch. They really do usually drive them to destruction.
Get it checked over. ;)

Kev.

I've been told it's usually better to not get the car back, it'll be tagged as a stolen recovered now I think ? :(

Possibly stand by for another bill!! When my sons car was stolen and recovered to a "police pound" he ended up with a bill (cant remember how much), when he went to collect it!!!

Just think it'll affect the value when you come to sell it as it'll come up on a car data/hpi check

Hello all,

After 7 weeks I am pleased to say I got my car back today. Just thought I'd let you all know after the fabulous support I received.

Oh and still no sign of the cameras. Someone somewhere must have a mate of a mate of a mate who's suddenly got hold of a D3s or a D300s "on the cheap".
