hi guys

I'm currently travelling Australia so I have the opportunity to take so many amazing pictures.

I'm looking at submitting my images to stock websites.

Does anybody have and advice? Ones to use/not to use?

Also I understand model release but can anyone inform me further on property release? I have 2 great ones of the Sydney harbour bridge/ animals from the zoo/opera house. Would these require any type of release forms?

Also any advice on making prints available or getting my images in to like shops that sell canvas' ect?

Any advice greatful.

Thankyou

Have a good time!

I used to be on Stock Agencies but it all made no sense any
more with digital so I took other routes.

No release needed for open public or private places.
You need one if you want to shoot inside private and
closed places.

No release required but certain cities will
grant shooting permits. Inside buildings and exhibits.
no release if granted permissions.

Thank you so much! Should I look at the zoom granting me a permit to upload the images of their animals?

No, never…
but make sure you are granted permission
in the first place.

Jessica,

The returns from stock photography are so low now, it will hardly be worth uploading them. Sad but true.

As a broad generalisation its true, unless you upload a vast number and are happy with a low % sales and income, but on a vast scale its worth it

Also, more than one pal of mine has found a niche Stock Agency to work with and they make a decent living from stock still in their niche

But yes, 500 even 5000 pretty general photos from a trip abroad aren't likely to have much value

Ok thank you for everyone's views, can anyone recommend where to go from here then?

I want to start moving forward but whilst travelling my love for weddings and newborns is going to have to take a back seat.

There is a photographer on a Nikon forum who, occasionally, posts his earnings from his stock photography offerings. PM me if you want a link or want to explore further. I will say that since he started he's earned whack load of money. He's also a pretty darn good photographer.

I've got about 300 photos on Alamy and Getty, been there since about 2011 and made around £500. However after commission it's closer to £200.
All of the photos I've sold are completely random subjects. The top seller is a picture of my wife's eye with a eye disease, the second most popular is of a quail.

I think to make any proper money you need to upload thousands of images and have it as your main job. It's just not worth the time invested for the returns for most.
I certainly won't bother submitting any more.

I started submitting stock photos about 18 months ago. Will never make my fortune at it but have made a bit, and as it is just a hobby I'm happy enough with that. It is quite time consuming though so if you've got the time to spare and otherwise your photos will just sit on your hard drive I'd say go for it.

Occasionally put some on with Alamy but 7 or 8 years ago they were averaging £350 and upwards per sale and now its more like £25/£45 a hit.
