Autostitch is quite good.

Also take a look at Hugin

Also a fan of MICE, the Microsoft offering, just about handles everything you throw at it. I have done loads simply handheld and no problems. Try different options to the default setting, sometimes that is needed.

+1 for Hugin. It's managed to create a stitch for me where CS5 was unable to.
