I have some knackered old stands, they're clean but starting to really stick so what's good for lubricating them?

Something like 3 in 1 oil or would a silicone spray be a better choice?

Doesn't it contain a wax substitute or even real wax?
 
Yes, it contains wax or something like it, it works well for this purpose
 
It even works quite well for Ski's & snowboards....
 
IF they are steel or untreated aluminium stands that are slightly rusted/corroded a gentle scrub with wire wool with a squirt of WD40 will clean the surfaces up for smoother movement. ( this also works great on old Hi-Glide rails that have become sticky & don't let the carriages move freely)
