I've noticed recently that my Manfrotto ballhead has been getting stiff it has now got to the point where it is difficult to move.
It is not dirty in any way and I am not aware of it being in any situation where anything could have contaminated the socket.
Does anyone know if there is anything I can use to free this up?

I use vasoline..

Ask the miss she might have it:)

I've done a bit of Googling and it appears that a very sparse application of WD40 is recommended remembering to wipe off any excess. Grease & Vaseline!!! will attract grease so don’t use that. I few people recommend a dry teflon spray whatever that is also lubricants for bicycle chains crops up a few times.

Yup! Teflon spray works best and doesn't collect dirt or grit.

I used to use Teflon spray on my guns, but be very carefull as it is toxic and should only be used outdoors............good stuff though.
