Hey everyone!

I was kind enough to lend my 500D to a friend to use for a couple of weeks and now I have it back the click wheel on the top (used to adjust aperture and shutter speed values) is feeling gummed up, to the point that it no longer clicks.

So, the questions. Has anyone else had a similar issue? I guess to get this sorted I would need to send it off to a canon repair centre?

I'm guessing that it was a good friend who borrowed the camera? IMO, he/she is responsible for the gumminess and so should foot any repair bill. you could try a bit of dental floss in the gaps above and below the wheel but be very gentle - you don't want to cause more damage! Might be worth a short blast of canned air down the gaps -that may shift a grain of sand but equally might blow it deeper into the works. However, if the camera needs a repair at a service centre, blowing crud a little deeper shouldn't make the job any harder or more expensive. Probably!

Whoever broke it, pays for it. If they're a good friend, I'm surprised they gave it back to you without mentioning it to you. Maybe they're not as good a friend as you imagine they are.

Lesson: Never lend your gear to anyone.

Nod - the stickyness goes away with use so i will give the dental floss a go :)

David - There was a very vague mention "I cant remember what it was like... I dont think it is different." definitely stick now! Lesson learned now though.
