Steve Irwin

Big news over here. He was a national Icon. More Australian than A Koala bear!!

Condolences to the family.

Sad news.

When he hit the screens over here in the UK my kids watched every episode over and over again. It's going to be hard telling them the news this morning when they wake up :(

yeah just heard this, great shame, he was a very good entertainer. Bonkers though.

for those that dont know, he was filming at the Great Barrier Reef, a Stingray(i think)got him, a Barb in the chest.

condolances to the family

how horrid, silly man though....entertaining but I mean really silly!

Bad news. Steve worked for my friend before he took over from his parents at Australia Zoo.

Back in the day he was a right old goer and worked in the kitchen in my friends business in Toowoomba where I lived. He spent many a night on the couch or floor. He then took over the Zoo in Queenslands hinterland and turned around a failing business with clever marketing, passion and dedication and it has become one of Queenslands top destinations.

Personally, this is very sad news.

He leaves behing a wife and two young children. :shake: :'(

it is worse when there is a personal interest...sorry Pete...have a hug M

That's awful news. Condolences to his family. The kids and me really loved watching his programs on the telly, and passion and enthusiasm like his was nothing if not completely infectious. :(

Terrible! :( His style of presentation was a bit OTT at times but there was no doubting the man's love and enthusiasm for what he did.

Really sad news, an Oz friend of mine referred to him as 'more Australian than a Koala' so I can only imagine the depth of sadness felt down under.
No consellation to the young family he left behind but, at least he died doing what he loved.

Obviously unimaginable what his family are going through so they have my sincerest condolences :(

Must admit I never really got into the habit of watching his shows, although must accept that what I did catch were both entertaining and interesting, which I guess was exactly what he was aiming to achieve

Really, really sad, his enthusiasm for violent & dangerous animals was infectious & he was definately a great showman.
I will definately miss his programmes too (my cats actually watched the tv anytime he was on - must be a combination of crocs, that accent and his wonderful catchphrases, so they'll miss him too :( ).
My, thoughts too are with his family.

.

got this a few hours ago, didn't have the balls to put it on the thread though.

That's really sad news. Only just learned this after having got home from work a few mins ago.

Nice guy died in a freak accident..:(

I must admit I had visions of him being killed by a croc or alligator but this came right out of the blue..

Sad indeed..:(

Yes - extremely sad. His love of what he did just shone through didn't it - I guess at least that's something though - he was doing what he loved best when he died.

As for the joke above, I find it shocking that in this day and age people can't even wait 24 hours before doing something like that. Give it a few days and yes, you kind of get resigned to the fact that stuff like that will be out there - there is such a thing as "common decency" though.

Very sad for his wife and kids, but not a big surprise...
To quote someone on another forum:

"At least he died doing what he loved best....annoying the local wildlife!" :cuckoo:

I personally tend to chuckle at most 'black humour' but I think in this case, on here, it's just a bit too soon :) Especially on the thread where everyone is discussing his death, and offering condolences :)

its sad. he was a bloke so passionate about what he did that it was almost infectious.

i guess in a way its possibly a good thing that he died doing something he loved as it would be mighty disapoiting to find a man who'd spent his life poking big crocodiles with very small sticks had been hit by a bus or something, a freak accident i guess. a complete nutter and an entertainer that will be missed
