As my original thread is now too old for me to edit the thread title, I have started this thread for weeks 27-52.

Links to previous weeks will be added here in the first post when I have a bit of spare time.

Photo 52 - Week 27 - Elaborate by MVS Photography, on Flickr

I'm not 100% happy with this one, but due to time restraints I'm not sure when I'll be able to reshoot as this was taken at my in laws' house in Wales.
The main problems with these pictures for me are the little flash reflection on the main picture, and the clarity of the smaller two.

Finally, a theme picked on the perfect day for the shot... or so I thought.

Not wanting to use an old image, I wanted to recreate a photo from a few months ago (if the team's performance gave me the chance). The only problem was that the weather, although nice, wasn't of the same quality as the original photo, and being a friendly, the crowd was smaller and not as excited.

The attempted recreation

As anyone who's done football photography will know, you don't usually get the chance to get the goal, the players celebrating and the crowd celebrating, and with different settings often needed for crowd shots v action shots, results can really vary.

So, as a result of the combination of my pre season rustiness and the fact that the crowd wasn't too fussed about the goal, I'm using this slightly older picture for Celebrate.

Week 28 - Celebrate

Mark..love the elaborate timepiece, that lighting/colour is cracking

for the emotion captured in celebrate .. massive 10-10 .. the lens flare behind the supports in number 2 great capture

mark..you can have the threads merged you know...so you can carry on the ONE thread.? just ask a mod apparently

Will that work though as the initial post of the first thread is over 6 months old so I can't edit it any longer.

they've changed the rules... ask Lynne (blondie) as i think she had hers merged and stan.(rpn) ... its painless too i think..might be a small fee of a crate of mead and a kitkat?

Apparently there's still a chance I wouldn't be able to edit the first post (what with it being over 6 months old) so rather than mess around I'm going for the safe option and leaving them as two threads.

Still, one response since week 26 isn't good (even for me!)

Hiya Mark,

So this is where you have been hiding

I started to think you had given up as I had not seen you post for some time, and then I see this on the front page.

Sorry, I seem to have missed your 2nd part of the project. I think most have gone down the route of continuing their original threads. The mods have been kind enough to extend our 6 month expiry date. I'm sure if you contacted SarahLee she would be able to combine the threads for you. But if you are happy to continue in 2 parts, so be it. As a suggestion, so people know you have a 2nd part going, perhaps post a link to this thread in the TP Photo52 Join In thread.

Now for a quick catch-up:

Elaborate: Wow what an elaborate timepiece and I think you have done a fantastic job in capturing the colour and detail. The slight light reflection is minor and it doesn't detract too much for me. A great idea for the theme.

Celebrate: For me it has to be #2, the light just seems to add to the whole atmosphere of the event and the light flare adds to the celebration effect. I also think you have captured more of the joy of celebrate in the second shot.

The first shot doesn't say celebrate as much to me, perhaps because my eyes seem to be lead down the centre of the shot to the railings and lamp posts at the end.

Otherwise well done on both counts.

Now I have your new thread tagged I shouldn't miss your future posts.

Good luck with the 2nd half of the project.

Cheers

Dawn :)

I have just found you again too! Nice set of pics! I love that clock, very elaborate indeed. And for celebrate, number 2 is super! The lighting is brilliant and the atmosphere is captured very well too.

Hi Mark three great pics for Elaborate and Celebrate.

The crops and framing/borders work well for the clock image. Excellent lighting. I agree with your comment about the flash reflection but that's a minor niggle. The detail and colours are great. I would have preferred a deeper DOF on the bottom left pic to bring it all into focus.

The crowd shots are great - a real feeling of celebration. #2 is ace!

Thanks for the positive comments all. Definitely prefer #2. I was trying to replicate it in #1, but the atmosphere at the ground just wasn't the same.

I've got pictures for Smell, just need to edit them and get them up, but so far nothing for Weird or Wind.

I'm still here (just). I've still been keeping an eye on themes and trying to get my photos done within the week, but just haven't had the time to come on here, comment, or even edit and upload my photos.

So, here are three of the weeks of my summer catch up, and in between holidays and day trips with the kids I should be able to get the rest done in the next week or two.

Week 29 - Smell

Taken at Hall Place in Bexley, Kent, during a recent trip 'daaan saaaff' to see my Mum and little brother...

Week 30 - Weird

I think the content of the photo speaks for itself. I'm not really a fan of sepia, but colour and black & white didn't quite look right for me. Also, had my cloning skills been better I would have cropped out the guy in the background finishing his pint...

Week 31 - Wind

The Mrs and I had a nice walk up to Scout Moor Wind Farm near Rochdale. Having seen the wind turbines from Saddleworth many a time, we knew they were big, but you really don't appreciate the sheer size of them until you're up close.

(See the little sticky out bit near the bottom? That's above a large door which is up a little set of steps.)

I like your wind pic... however I think a bit of motion blur of the blades going round would really help.

Mark

Cheers all.

Mark - I had a couple of photos from that day with some motion blur, but they were taken from much closer and I wasn't as keen on the angle.

Almost sorted with holiday editing and should be posting remaining outstanding themes in the next couple of days.

Finally got round to editing and uploading my last few photos for the 52...

Week 33 - Record

Week 34 - Work

Borth - A little town/village in Wales where we go each summer with the in-laws. The sea defences are currently being updated and there was a lot of work going on on the beach.

Week 35 - Blur

No prizes for guessing the inspiration behind my take on this theme. I wasn't sure which one to use, so decided to upload both.

I still have Evolution to do, but getting hold of the subject has been a pain in the arse, so I may have to come up with a backup plan.

Hi Mark

finally found you again !

Elaborate....love this image...great colors & framing..shame about the slight light spot on the clock face but shiny things reflect so well it's hard to avoid ...great image though

Weird...unless I'm missing something the shot doesn't say Wierd to me ? However I really like it , sepia suits the period , slighlty too tight a crop on the left but nice shot irrespective

Simply love Smell...great colors , brill use of DOF & love the angle

Blur....gone straight over my head

Record....a different take & well shot , B&W suits it , love the shadow works really well...great stuff

I get it now.
I had a similar idea based on the lyrics "the dirty pigeons, they love a bit of it" in Parklife, but didn't think eveyone would get it, I guess you may have!

I'm not that clued up on the videos so didn't see the link.
You've done a great job with the milk cartons.
Love the song too, not heard it in years.

Thanks for posting the youtube link, now I see the connection. I really like the cuteness of those milk cartons. As for time, I can't make my mind up either, they both are great layouts. I think number 2 is my preferred one after looking back a few times.

Photoshopped time?

As a guess you can duplicate the main layer several times, rotate (with expansion) a set number of degrees, then move the layers so the pivot point is the same place.... looks good in what you've done.

Think I would also like to see a long exposure (use low light and manually fired flash at the end..? or a torch for light painting.

Hmmm. No themes yet but might have a go at something like that :D

It was taken at my sister's and I didn't have my tripod so no chance of a long exposure. I will, however, add this to my list and do a reshoot at a later date.

I just hope for the long exposure it doesn't turn around on the chain. :bang:

Hiya Mark,

Just doing a quick catch up on your progress with your project and must say I like the photos you have posted since my last visit.

The 'time' shot is fab!

Well done and keep up the good work.

Cheers
