Sterling Archer's Photo 52 - Part 1 (1-26)

I was going to try and get a shot of a local Mountain Rescue Land Rover, then decided some night shooting near the local A&E would get me an ambulance with blues and twos on, but in the end opted for 'Psyche Revived by Cupid's Kiss' (not the full sized one).

For those wondering how it fits the theme...

In Greek and Roman mythology, Psyche was a beautiful princess who won Cupid's love. Her beauty was such that worshipers began to turn away from Venus, and the envious goddess commanded her son Cupid to make Psyche fall in love with the most despicable of men. But Cupid himself fell in love with Psyche and hid her in a remote place, where he visited her secretly under cover of darkness. One night she lit a lamp and discovered her lover's identity. He left angrily, and Psyche wandered the earth searching for him and was captured by Venus. After Cupid rescued Psyche with love's kiss, Jupiter made her immortal and gave her in marriage to Cupid.

Looks like a superb sculpture.

Exposure looks fine and and there's some nice shadows.

For me thought, I'm not keen on the crop. I Googled it and find that either a really tight shot or full sculpture shot worked better.

Cheers.

seriously you should have saved this for this week's theme....this would have been so fitting too..

not wild about the crop, lighting and focus gets the

Hiya Mark,

I like this very much for the theme and thanks for adding the bit of story which is very interesting.

I don't know what the full size looks like, but I like the crop and lighting.

As Kev said you could have used this one for the new theme, it would have been very fitting.

Well done

Cheers

Dawn :)

Sorry to say find the crop a bit to much too... but fab effort... out the box thinking... well done!

Mark

Crop is better but the lighting isn't as good, I feel.

I Googled the statue again and there are sssooo may ways to compose and light the full statue.

I think you could have got much closer, perhaps??

Cheers.

Hiya Mark,

Yep ... I like the latest crop too.

Cheers

Dawn :)

It's annoying that the statue fits this week's theme too, especially considering how uninspired* I am with Sensual.

Another photo of the statue would just feel a bit of a cop out though, so I'm determined to get something else.

*bearing in mind my father in law and my kids will see my 52 at some point.

you could always use the statue for this weeks theme and shoot something else for rescue?

Or is that just one of my rules???

Mark

Hi Mark, 2 excellent photos there. It is very difficult to choose between them, at the moment number 2 has the edge, like the tightness of the crop. The black and whit on both is excellent. I think number 1 would look better if you cropped the right hand side off where the bright area is, but then again it might unbalance the photo  It has been a tough week, but a big well done for getting these.

Week 26 - Sensual

Really struggled with this one, but I am torn between two shots...

Hi, tell me about it...:'(

Of the two, I'l opt for #2. The background looks a tad over exposed. I quite like the angle of the background.

She doesn't look too comfortable in either, to be honest??

Is the colour OK, looks a bit blue on my laptop?

Cheers and well done for beating me hands down..!!

Cheers both. I'm just so relieved that this week's theme is done with now, and I can hopefully look forward to something a bit more 'me' tomorrow.

Is the colour OK, looks a bit blue on my laptop?

It's supposed to have a slight blue tint to it, as a couple of the preferred pictures on the mood board for this week had it, and we liked the effect. Probably should have mentioned that in the original post for clarity.

Hiya Mark,

Well done on both shots for this week's theme which has indeed been a very challenging one.

I presume this is your OH modelling for you (only judging by the ring on her finger in the 2nd image ... so apologies if I have got this wrong ;)) .... what a lovely figure she has

The first photo for me has a very staged and uncomfortable feel. However, if the brightness of the right of the photo could be toned down a bit I think this would look great. The lighting on the model looks great though.

For me though .... the 2nd shot takes the lead. In the sense that it not only has a sensual feel to it, but you have also included the senses elements i.e., ear, eye, nose, touch with a sense of taste in the style of shot and pose. I also like the angle of this shot.

Only slight nitpick on the 2nd shot is the shadow on the background, running down the left side of the model, and the slight highlight on the hair.

As for the blue tint ... I quite like that ... it adds to the mood of the images.

Overall well done with these photos and well done to your model/OH for posing for you too

Cheers

Dawn :)

Going against the grain here .. but #1 is better.

Now before you get all the people saying ney, ;) heres why:

#2
Although better in that you have more of your (lovely) model, the pose doesn't say sensual to me. More like I'm cold, possibly slightly afraid... But not sensual (for me).

#1
Looks closer to sensual. Like she is having some feelings - possibly the light caressing her skin, and the face reflects a slight pleasure.

If you do a retake and your model allows it, try in sunshine. :)

and as I haven't yet taken a shot for this - Well done!

Thanks both.

@Drodd - Yes, this is the lovely Mrs.

@ecniv - Hopefully the weather will hold up and I'll try some more this weekend.

In the meantime, I need to find something for this week's theme.

oh my word .. i'm sorry Mark..but enough is enough.. there has been too much naked :suspect: flesh going on around here.. yes i think both of you shots are good. for different reasons.. and momo conversion looks more blue on my monitor which for me adds a little something to the finished article...BUT there's still too much flesh going on... :naughty: .. i'm glad i've got a tight hold of my boxes!!

She's fully clothed! :cuckoo:

Hi Mark,

I too will be going against the popular opinion of two being the better shot.

They're both pleasing, but number two suggests scared and vulnerable, as if some dirty old man is stood behind her (no not the one with the camera ) and about to do nasty things.

Number one on the other hand, with the eyes closed, looks more relaxed and as if the model is warm and cosy.

Well done though to you both.

Hi Mark

number 1 gets my vote as well

The pose def says sensual to me , eye's closed as if enjoying the feeling of fingers on skin:clap: Slight crop to the right to lose some of the brightness & it'd be perfect , for me at least . A big well done to your good lady for modelling for you...you've both done a great a job:clap:

After not being able to amend the thread title (due to the 6 month rule) I started a second thread for the second half of my 52.

I'm not sure if anyone has subscribed to this thread or not, but in case they have, the new one can be found here

Cheers,

Mark

You should be able to amend your thread title... I have done.

Cheers.

The 6 month rule has been revised to a 12 month one :rules:
Apparently you can get your threads merged too, check out Dawns thread, I think she noted how you get the Mods to do it.
