Well my teenage stepdaughter Chevonne has learnt very quickly the basics of how to use her very first film slr ( Zenit) and how to develop b&w film.

She has registered on TP but wishes to wait until she gets home to the UK (she returns home today) before she activates her account and says hello.

In the meantime she has asked me to post one her shots so here it is of Monaco port/harbour

No doubt over the coming week she will say hi herself and possibly (hopefully) post some more of her work

Great to see Chevonne's first shot, you can't beat a view of Peckham by the Sea  Hopefully this will be the first of many

Hi Nick,
Chevonne went home this evening.
I was surprised to come online to find a friend request from her...these young uns don't mess about do they?!!! lol
It's not until you start to teach someone, you realise just how much there is to learn even for the absolute basics.
Given the time we had amongst doing other things, I am well proud how quickly she picked up what she did.
I was seriously impressed at how after two practice attempts in daylight, she managed to spool a film in her changing bag as if she had been doing it for years!!!!
She ended up with 34 images out of her 36 film....pretty darned good for a beginner.
She has returned home with the scanned files on a disc so perhaps she will be persuaded to share more although she has yet to figure out how to upload them from flicker or image shack etc.
Naturally she has her negatives with her along with a pack of 10 films to go home with.
I explained to her about finding somewhere to scan her future films......she was pretty confident that she will have enough charm to get round her dads little finger for her own scanner!!............we will see! He's gunna love me isn't he??? lol
I wish to say a BIG thank you to all those including yourself Nick, who have helped me to get her started in what I hope is a passtime that she wil hopefully get lots of fun from.

Certainly better results than my first roll of film :) It's good to see that we may have another denizen of the F&C forum, there's plenty of room for another one, even if it does smell funny  Looks to be all set up and ready to rock, we look forward to seeing more of her work :D

LOL.....I was there to advise and guide her but to be fair she took the lead and measured the EV using a Weston V meter (she also has the option of the meter in the camera as well) then calculated the shutter speed/ aperture etc

Naturally she has some OOF, under/over exposed and poorly composed results but I simply wished for her to get a feel for the gear and more importantly have fun regardless of the end results.

Surprisingly she found the wet side of developing the least interesting.....Waiting for the minutes to pass and agitating were not too appealing to her....maybe a teenage thing??!!lol

I felt that to start with ISO, aperture and shutter speed was a better idea than composure, level horizons etc so that she would have a good chance of ending up with images on her film.

Well i am clearly a great topic of conversation ;).

Well of course you are sweetheart......probably even more so with an avatar pic like that!! lol

haha! GO CHEV :D well, i like to take pictures :) lol
this forum thingy is confusing :|.

Just had a thought ....I suspect you might be the youngest member on here....we need to know if that offers any perks..........mods????

It's up to you how you go about posting Chevonne.

There is a welcome forum ( listed under "forums" ) at the top of the page..that might be a start for you or if you want to post more of your pics then simply start yourself a thread in the F&C (Film and Conventional) forum.

Have fun!

I suspect you might be the youngest member on here....

Probably no one on this forum is using a camera younger than her!

(the newest I have is probably the Nikon FE, early to mid 1980s!)

Also nice shot, I still remember the excitement of getting my first roll developed.

Well seeing as your first pic is up on my thread that you've hyjacked!! lol ( I don't mind!!), we best give it some gentle constructive critiscism........oh I know i can hear you saying "Oh dear" ...lmao!

Well seeing as the shot is exactly as the camera took it with no pp (post processing) on the computer afterwards, I think it's pretty good.

The exposure (lighting) looks ok, so the aperture and shutter speed that you used was about right.
There was bright sun on the boats and dark shades on the buildings so to get detail on the whole image deserves a well done!

I've got to give you something to think about for your future shots though haven't I ?? lol.....in this pic you have a sloping horizon which means the sea is going to pour out of my computer screen to the left and land on your mum sat at the side of me!!! lmao..... a little thing for you to look into when you take your other pics.

As said have fun and good luck learning.

I have no idea what that means :| haa. i did oh dear actually :'),
ummmm ill probably get what you mean eventually :').

take your time with it.......they're all friendly on here so ask whatever questions you want as you go along and of course you always know where i am.
I'll be watching out for your posts on here...parental control and all that!!:D :D :D

aha, oh dear, not allowed to be parental controlled, :). i still don't get it :') but i'm starting to get it kinda i guess (:

which bit don't you understand?.....I'll see if i can explain it easier

don't worry about not understanding Chevonne ....there is so much to learn but all at your own pace.

indeed, aha. i'm a slow learner :)

Well you didn't hang around when it came to sorting film in the changing bag ....I was well impressed.

You learn at whatever speed you want ...slow suits me just fine!

that's because i wanted to get it done aha :), was rather determined :).
Think the dude next door has a scanner, ill use my charm to make him let me use it :)

I hadn't really thought about our cameras like that. I have a cybersampler camera that takes 4 shots with one press of the shutter release...that is possibly my youngest film camera which I think was released in the late eighties.
Oh what it's like to be young .....I'm still there, if only in my head!!! lol

May not be strictly true, I have/use a Minolta Dynax 5 which was made in 2001 (so 11 years old) and a Dynax 505si Super from 1998 (so 14 years old).

However, my other cameras range from 39 years old (Pentax Spotmatic F) to about 36/37 (Minolta SR-T 303, Pentax ESII) to 34 (my Dads Zenit, incidentally my first 'proper' camera as well!) to about 32 (Pentax Auto 110) so I can safely say I've got a fair age range!

Nice shot and the first of a lot more to come hopefully! I started developing my own film about 4 months ago and it is a great feeling the first time you get them off the reel and see the negatives.

I started out as a teenager using an old Pentax with B&W film, it wasn't trendy then, just cheap :D and my Dad wouldn't trust me with colour. I have to say my pictures were nowhere near as good.
Well Done

t'was only a rough statement really, I guess anyone with a Holga would have a significantly newer camera

I now feel really old, that's at least 3 members younger than me shooting film!

Thank you for all your encouragement guys for Chevonne......much appreciated:thumbs:

Much as it makes some of us feel really old ( Alans comment made me lol!!:D), it's cool to see young people showing interest in traditional methods.

Not actually the youngest, and by quite a margin in a couple of cases... though the others don't often frequent F&C (Fogeys and Curmudgeons).

Sadly, for the next couple of months Chevonne, you will have certain restrictions regarding access to some forum areas, and a custom name-badge to put up with. Roll on Bastille Day - apparently you and I share not only a home-town, but a birthday (though sadly, not the year part !)
