Step up or step down

I have recently purchased a 0.4 teleconverter lens for use with Olympus
E520. The converter has a thread size of 58mm and I want to use it on one of my lenses which has a 52mm thread size. Am I right in saying that I require to purchase a 52/58mm step up ring as opposed to any kind of step down ring

Yes, you are correct. The convention is lens to filter, so small lens thread to large filter thread is a step up. Large lens thread to small filter thread is a step down.
