Yes
I recently ordered a step-down adaptor from amazon to allow me to connect a 58mm filter thread lens to a 52mm attachment. So 58mm male thread and 52mm female. When it arrived I have what I would call a step up adaptor - i.e. to allow a 58mm filter to be used on a 52mm filter thread lens. Needless to say it's going straight back but I'm just starting to doubt my sanity :)

I used SRB previously and all my filters are now 82mm with step rings to 77mm in the main and then 67 and 58mm

I've just had a look and cant see them listed on their web site, it may be worth contacting them to see if they have any remaining stock ?

TBH, I wouldn't use a 52mm filter on a 58mm lens - that would almost certainly introduce some vignetting.

58mm male thread and 52mm female
Is a step down IMO, the male part screws into the end of the lens, the filter screws into the female 52mm thread? If I am reading this correctly you are going from a 58mm lens to a 52mm filter so step down

To save any confusion with regards to step up or step down, you always use the camera lens size first followed by whatever size you want. ie 52-58 would be a step up ring and a 58-52 would be a step down ring.

This is great advice. The whole step up and step down is just confusing as it depends on the way you think about it. it all depends whether you’re thinking it’s stepping from lens to filter or filter to lens. I always wrong thought a larger filter was stepping down to a smaller lens but that’s the wrong way around as it should be a lens stepping to a filter ie in my case a 67mm lens stepping up to a 77mm filter. Why you’d want to step down from a larger lens to a smaller filter makes no sense to me at all.

It's to connect to a bellows hood so for the application I'm using it for Vignetting is not an issue

As per above it's for a bellows hood so in this case for what I'm doing vignetting is not an issue

If the male thread is smaller than the female thread, its a step-up ring. If the male thread is larger than the female thread, its a step-down ring. See post #7.
