Step down rings - have I bought the wrong ones?

Ok I think I may of bought the wrong ones...

I have a 77mm filter I want to use on some 62-67mm lens I have and I bought these:
Belmalia Set of 8 Step-Down Rings, Lens Filter Adapters: 82mm 77mm 72mm 67mm 62mm 58mm 55mm 52mm 49mm https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00WQ0C7SU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DIq8zb7CB8N03

I can’t seem to get them to work (filter attached to the 77mm fine, but no thread on the 62mm to attach to the lens.

Should I of bought step up instead?

Yes, you need to STEP UP the lenses filter thread to your larger filter.

(I always think they should be step down rings).

Yep, you need step UP rings, i.e 62mm - 77mm. I bought a couple from China off eBay a few months ago and the quality was fine. They were only 99p each too, which was a bonus as I didn't see the point in spending a fiver or more for all that it is on a brand name
