I'm going to Monza in a week or so, and decided to get a hotel 150 miles away in Davos (Switzerland) so that the route to 'work' will be the famous Stelvio pass.

Has anyone been there, and where are the best places to take shots?

I'm going with a mate and we hired a decent RWD car, but we both got so excited about it that we thought it was best to rent one each LOL

(not sure if this is Talk Photography, or Out of Focus, so feel free to move it)

I'm off there very soon (end May/beginning June) Looking forward to it :) Hoping also to get a good few shots on my travels.

Oh man Oh man!

Looks as fun as the 'ring!

Done it on the bike a couple of years ago, it's fun

So much fun that we decided to go back up and do it again.... Only to find that we had to go back down again to make our way on our trip..... :D

We didn't stop on the pass, just kept going to get our "knee down technique" in order :lol::lol:

sounds like its going to be as fun as i thought then :)
i saw a few videos on youtube and i'm definitely going to take it easy on the way down! I dont want to boil my brake fluid!

My dad was on a classic rally in Italy and the car suffered brake failure going down a mountain pass like the Stelvio (wasn't but was very similar in distance and height)

Had to coax the car down using gears, engine braking and judicious handbrake use.

Vowed never to leave Norfolk after that! (A vow since broken)

Done it, although it was while back, loved it to bits, also worth a go is the Grssglockner high alpine pass, it's where BMW roadtest their cars, they buy the pass for the day and it's closed to others, fantastic, took a large german caravan over it back in the 90's behind a Shogun, I was overtaking Trabbants as they had just been allowed into the west

Have a great time and be careful

wasn't this on the last series of top gear where they were trying to find the best road in Europe. It looked awesome :D

Looks like great fun.

We did a couple of similar runs in Austria last year, although we were on a bus which was quite scary. Especially when you got round a bend and were met with mountain goats sat in the middle of the road.

The best one was up to the Kauntertal Glacier, 29 hairpin bends all numbered.

the end of the italian job would put me off ever going up there on a bus :)
