Hi guys, Just getting into this whole world of photography with dslr's.
Have been photoshopping and taking photos with my point and shoot (casio exilm) for ages,
but Im looking to get more into the professional side of things.

Thinking about buying a canon 450D but I havnt a clue about what lenses and accessories I should get.
I am so confused with all the different types of lenses ... any suggestions ??

I think it might be worth looking into the 40D (which is roughly the same price as the 450D). As for a lens to go with it... well it depends what you want to shoot. I got the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 with my 40D and I love it. But there are other options (especially the Sigma 24-70 - which I almost went with!) What sort of things are you interested in photographing?

You need to decide what kind of things you want to take photos off then look at what lenses are suitable.

There are some very good "walk about" lenses out there with a wide focal length range (28-200mm) which might be good to get your started but on these the image quality is not so good at the extream ends of the range.

Well Id like to think that Im going to be doing all kinds of photography, ie landscape to macro, and everything in between but, in reality I'll probably be shooting mostly portrait.
How about suggesting a good telephoto lens, a good macro lens, and a good lens for portraits ... XD

Landscapes, no contest: Sigma 10-20mm

Macro - Tamron 90mm, Sigma 105mm or 150mm

Portraits - 50mm or 85mm f/1.4 or f/1.8, the Tamron 90mm is also a great portrait lens...

Telephoto - So many! Sigma 100-300mm f/4, 120-300mm f2/8, 70-300mm APO...

Plus the Canon/Nikon own brand lenses, depending on your system of choice!

so ... anyone wana start from scratch and explain to me what all this millimeter business is about ... XD

If you look down in the trading section/for sale...there appears to be a 350D going, complete with lenses, grip and cards , and damn cheap. Worth considering at the price, and that is from someone who doesn't even know the seller, lol.
