I've finally started to build my own photography website  I'm using clic pics because I don't want to go through the hassle of Wordpress again, which I use for my business (not photography related). Anyway, I am building a site for two reason.

A: To get some more portraiture work. I haven't done much portrait work yet but I know from my other business the best way to get started is to have a website. Although I still need to improve a lot on portraits we've all got to start somewhere and at some point. Although I'm not going to be pushing for it yet, I would like to get some cards done if asked. And you NEED a website on those cards IMHO.

B: To sell (or at least try) images of other genres eg landscape.

Now no one is going to buy images if they are the full size on the site meaning they can just copy them. However if I reduce the image size or/and put a gurt watermark through them then how can anyone purchase them?

I am sort of thinking ahead on this one as I don't want to upload all my images one way and wish I'd done it another.

Any advice on this or anything else greatly appreciated. (y)

I just tried browsing through clikpic's example sites (http://www.clikpic.com/index.cfm?section=featured)

The first few loaded OK, then it completely stopped serving me any images on any of the sites...using normal firefox/windows 7 on a good wired network connection.
They didn't seem to be responsive pages either - narrow your browser down to a phone-screen sized width and none of them seemed to change - don't know how well they'd display on phone browsers.
Sample base of 1, but suggest picking people's brains about where to go for reliable service before you go all-out on clikpic.

Looking at their prices, there are probably better options out there. I use Zenfolio. No limit on number of images, you upload original size, determine what people can buy in terms of downloads or prints, automate a watermark if you want so you don't put one on the original file, easy peasy. Lots of templates, which can be customized, and resize for devices. Get a free trial, if you want to go forward, I have a discount code for 10% off. Referral Code:E8E-T4N-JSZ. I've been with them for a few years now. Works for me.

I publish in gallery format my pictures on my website, where I will predetermined
the size to the thumbnails and the size of the preview. These galleries are then listed
but just have a look.

I use zenofolio for my website. I don't have it set up for selling but could easily upgrade. It is easy to set up and make a nice style website.

Zenfolio prices have increased over the last few years but it's only affected new members or anyone changing plans. As far as I know the prices are now on par with most website service providers. For selling cart websites zenfolio now charge £16 and £25 per month so clikpics priced are not too bad but it depends which plan you go on.
