Star Wars - which order?

I stand by my other part of the quote and still say that he is a lovable rouge.
Not once ( as far as I can remember) did he show any other aggression during the film, other than self defence or self preservation.

yup, he becomes a loveable rogue. Shooting greedo helps that transition be a bit more poignant. Gives him more of an edge at the start.

shooting after greedo dulls that edge - thats why people didn't like it

But that's pretty much the first time you see him in any kind of action.
Its a given that he is a smuggler, but no kind of mercenary.
So there is nothing to base any kind of character on.
Certainly as far as a cold blooded killer goes.
As before it was self defence, who ever shot first.

Its been good, thanks for the discussion
But for now I must go do stuff...................

I have droids to clean, crops to plant & a galaxy to save :D

Galaxy? I've always preferred CDM as far as "chocolate" goes.

got offered the chance to work on the first one ,i was working at m.g.m elstree on special effects on 2001 a space oddessey and the whole crew was given the chance to sign up and work on a unspecified space movie ,my wife at the time wouldn't go abroad initially to california so i had to turn it down grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Tell us more (y)

"Special effects are traditionally divided into the categories of optical effects and mechanical effects. With the emergence of digital film-making tools a greater distinction between special effects and visual effects has been recognized, with "visual effects" referring to digital post-production and "special effects" referring to on-set mechanical effects and in-camera optical effects."

I was just meaning 'tell us more' about working on 2001 ;)

Look some of us were their,we know who shot first,i dont know what George Lucas is talking about he wasnt even their that day,he was of making a movie

everyone knows there was a second gun man

By the sounds of that, you have never forgiven her either :D

Actually, not that I'd given it a lot of thought, I didn't know that

back in those days it was purely mechanical special effects ,i did the paint job on the orion shuttle rocket ,if my memory serves me right around 3000 small panels all hand painted in different shades of grey and seen for about ten seconds in the film ,we also worked on the lunar landing module which had people waving out of the windows ,that was photos taken on slide film of actors lined up in high rise offices in london and shot with telephoto lenses then simply cut out and sellotaped to the inside of the model ,we had to make the legs on that model "flex " on landing and that was done with rudimentary fleet (brand ) bang bang radio control ,as this was just before the advent of proportional or full servo r/c .
every day we had our dinner and then the full crew retired to the cinema to view the previous days takes ,have lectures from space specialists from nasa and the smithsonian institute ,and a couple of weeks was spent on voting on the music to with sprachs zarathusa winning ,got to be 50 years ago now ,how time flies when your having fun .:exit:

I wouldn't show them to anyone. Awful films. Could not imagine anything more tedious than watching a star wars film.

Back on track

Watch the classics first , (preferably the originals without the digital trickery added )

then you won't get questions about why the space ships 30 years earlier look so much sleeker , my son loved Star Wars as a kid, I didn't tell him the first 3 existed until somebody at school did then I reluctantly let him watch them

You mean "Han was the only one who shot"

Saying he shot first implies Greedo actually took a shot, when he didnt

What do it matters? It is self-defence for Han anyway. Consider that, if someone talks about killing you, would you wait until they shoot first before you shoot back? Surely sometimes you do not have to wait until they shoot you before you shoot back, surely you can consider shooting first if you knows your life is at risk. For all we know, Han, even thought he do not have the Force in him, is actually experience enough to know Greedo is slowly pulling the trigger. To me, it is still self-defence if Han shoot first or shoot second.

What about cowboys? Cowboy A makes a draw for his gun, Cowboy B happens to be faster on the draw and shot A before A could get to fire first, it's still self-defence. Or should Cowboy B wait until A shoot first then B can fire back in self-defence unless he got shot, gasp his wound, grit hit teeth, spin around, fire at the ground or in the air in Hollywood style.

Isn't that what they meant by saying "Kill or be killed"?

And in my option, it do not matter in which order to watch Star Wars, do it 1 to 6 or original trilogy then second trilogy, or just let them watch only Star Wars (AKA A New Hope) on its own. There is no rules telling you in which order to watch, it's up to you. Just ask your kids which ones they want to watch first, most kids often don't bother with which order, all they care about is watching a cool movie.

...aaaand breathe :D

Lucus says...................

And around 1:20 you definitley see a blaster shot from Greedo

Great but I still think Han is experienced enough to know Greedo is willing to shoot him, so Han shoot first in a kill or be killed situation.

I'm not arguing
a few posts back, I said

.....................And it was technically self defence anyway, Greebo was going to / would have kill(ed) him.

I still think han do shoot first. He doo dough don't he dough

The Bakers thread is over HERE :D

TBH Greedo would have to be some kind of useless bounty hunter to shoot at that range and miss.

As Tuco said in The Good, the Bad and the Ugly "If you've got to shoot, shoot. Don't talk"
