Ok so am I the only geek who loves Star Trek 'The Next Generation' or are there others? Go on, don't be shy, show yourselves for what you are!

Maybe we could then have a good old chin wag in this thread about the ST:TNG moments we love.

If you don't love ST, please forget you read this thread! I don't want to get a reputation as a weirdo ST love (only by those who love it too!)

(scared stiff pressing 'submit' on this)

Like a Romulan Battle-Fleet at Warp-9?

Yes, something like that, and definitely more of a Romulan than a friendly Federation vessel.

Hmmm...It was supposed to be some fun for people who enjoy ST.

I'll close the thread if I can work out how (which so far I can't).

I'm sure it will be for some people, so no need to close it. My comment was tongue in cheek, thus the grinning smiley.

I understand it was tongue in cheek but that and other comments just made me feel that it wasn't such a good idea to start this thread in the first place. I don't want to end up being thought of as a freak on TP. :)

I see there is no way to close a thread anyway so I'm stuck with it. LOL.

Some of the episodes of TNG I thought were pretty good, but I found that it was up against a series that was, IMHO far better and had a much greater ongoing plot continuity, in Babylon 5.

I think the first series of TNG was poor and put a lot of people (myself included) off, but from then on the characters had established themselves and I found that it got better and better. People tend to laugh at anything to do with ST but if they watched it they may not think the same. Much of it, especially the movies, were full of comedy (I mean intentionally by the writers).

I didn't watch Babylon 5 much, maybe a couple of episodes. It was never plastered all over Sky One like ST:TNG was for years until recently. :)

Love star trek, I think every series has been better than the last and it's a shame they pulled Enterprise when it had soo much potential.

Babylon5 was a fantastic series and deserves it's place in the scifi hall of fame, but it went on for half a season too long, the writer let himself be pushed into letting it go past it's natural end and it's last plot lines were poor.

I personally preferred TNG to all the others. The final few episodes of Voyager were amazing though. I never did get into Deep Space 9, despite trying to enjoy it many times. I found it quite boring that they were stuck on a stationary space station most of the time. Enterprise did have potential, I agree, but I don't think they did very well with it from the start. I found the characters irritating and I'm sure many others did too. The only character who seemed realistic in that was the Vulcan woman.

I just watched a few clips from the movie 'Generations'. Extremely funny in places, such as where Data pushes Dr. Crusher into the sea at the start.

B5 was excellent

Voyager started off ok but did get a little tiresome. 7of9 helped me get through that though. Enterprise was very good, and ultimately undervalued by the writers. I hope that JJAbrahms reboot is good.

I've obviously missed out from not watching much of B5, as many of you say it was very good. I'll look out for repeats of it.

Yes I agree about 7 of 9, and the Vulcan (I forget her name) in Enterprise wasn't too bad either. :D

Awww glad to have come across a thread like this. And yes, I'm a HUGE Star Trek fan and I'm not ashamed of it. In fact, a couple of my photos posted off in TP showed it.
Whether it's the classics, through TNG, Voyager, Deep Space 9 right up to the most recent "Enterprise" I love all things Star Trek, no question about it.
I just like the thinking behind it, the thoughtful storylines and how the characters work together. And it does all that without resorting to too much "pow, pow, laser and exposions" stuff - even though there are SOME of that in Star Trek.
I love watching the Enterprise A glide gracefully out of a space dock and then going into warp drive seconds later.
I'm looking forward to the upcoming new film that's supposed to be completed in 2009.
Sometimes it feels like I'm the only one in this, but then I saw this thread . . . :)

B5 is something you have to watch from the beginning, the characters really grow with the series and have much more depth than those in most other scifi
programs.

Yup st fan and enterprise used to play st elite force online too :)

Ian DJ - I'm very pleased to hear that you were happy to find this thread! :) I wasn't sure about starting it then nearly closed it, but wasn't able to, and now I'm glad it's still open.

I'm not ashamed of being a ST fan either. I know that many people see it as geeky but it really isn't (so what even if it was?). If only people would actually watch some of the episodes after Kirk then they may actually enjoy them! :) My favourite is definitely TNG because I love the characters so much. The way Data mixes with the crue and Worf is always angry and has the micky taken out of him (and Troi's Mother calls him Mr. Woof!) - It almost makes it a comedy show sometimes. I could talk all night about so many funny things that have happened with the characters. I do love the technical side too, and like how they mention actual current theories when talking about bending space, other dimensions, warp speed, etc.. Of course much of what they do in ST goes a bit too far but I think they get it as close as they can to possible future reality, whilst keeping it worth watching by going a bit OTT sometimes.

I was aware of a new movie in the pipeline but didn't realise it was already being made. Will it be with a totally new crew? I know the TNG characters won't be doing it, although I bet at least one of they will show their face. :)

You won't be the only freak. ;) I'm surprised that BeHappy woman hasn't been on here telling everyone i'm a freak (of nature) by now :D

Oh hang on, she's away on biz for a couple of days and has no internet access  Give her time though... ;)

btw, I think to close a thread you have to edit your original post and probably choose advanced edit mode, or something along those lines. I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong. But hey, no reason to close it IMHO, just go with the flow and enjoy! :)

Hepburn - I've discovered that there isn't a way to close a thread unless you're admin, but I'm glad I wasn't able to now. :) I was just a bit wound up by the other guy earlier who I think was taking the p. If he wasn't then I'll happily stand corrected but that's how it felt anyway. But I'm un-wound now. ;)

Nice to meet another 'weirdo' Bastic. I never did get into Enterprise, although I did watch all the episodes. I found the characters too irritating, particularly that idiot chief Engineer guy. Good luck downloading all the DS9 episodes! That'll take you a while. :)

I've got every DVD of every episode of every Star Trek hehe, I love it :)
Enterprise is excellent, very underrated.
Love the Quantum Leap reunion episode lol (Do you know which one I mean, I wonder?)

Good for you. :D I can't say that I know any of the Enterprise episodes very well I'm afraid. I'm a die-hard TNG fan but just a casual watcher of the others. To if you ask anything about TNG, I HOPE I'd know the answer! :)

I've not got the ST series... I do have the complete B5 though... (*cough cough*)

We've got the complete B5 too, do like Star Trek as well, in all its guises - except Enterprise, can't stand the guy who played the captain- Now, did anyone say Farscape?

Tara

Hi Tara. I wasn't sure about the Captain in Enterprise but I didn't think he was as annoying as some of the others.

So you have all of B5 too? Several of you seem to love it. I'm sure I watched some of it at the start but it was so long ago that I don't remember anything about it. I'm going to have to do some research. :)

Hi Geoff. It's me again. As far as I know, the new upcoming film is based on Kirk's young academy days. They've got the complete cast to play the young version of the Enterprise crew and the script has been written and as far as I know, it's all under construction. Chris Peck (Run Fat Boy Run and Hot Fuzz) is set to play the young Scott.
For more info, you can check out their official web site (www.startrek.com - what else could it be called?! :D :D :D)
I'm not that big on B5 but I do know a trivia about it. Christopher Franke (an ex member of Tangerine Dream) provided the theme music and much of the backing music for that series. Bet you didn't know that? :D ;) :geek:
While Scott Bakula was superb as Sam Bekett in Quantum Leap (I have a couple of DVDs) I do personally feel that he didn't quite "gel" as a captain in Enterprise. It doesn't mean he was a bad actor, but it feels like he hadn't taken on any mannerisms or habits we could identify with him being Captain Archer. Even Sisko had this thing of keeping perfectly calm with his legs crossed when sitting on the captain's chair while at the same time his ship was tearing itself apart!
Finally, it has been known for people to say I look like Data, apparently due to my nose.

Tara, I managed to watch some of the Farscape episodes and then we stopped getting sky... What I saw of it, was very good.

Geoff, B5 starts off a little slowly as the first 5 or 6 ep's are really character intro's but it soon picks up the pace. It was good, IMHO, to have a series that had links through most of the ep's that tied it all together very nicely. The downside being, as someone said, you need to follow it through in sequence unlike some of the other series.

Always been a Trek fan me.... I really liked Voyager, the cast was really interesting and the story line had real purpose (got to get home).

I liked Enterprise too, it was meant to be a little raw as it was a whole new world that they had ventured into after designing warp technology.

My wife thinks I like those particular series because of T'Pol & Seven of Nine. I can't understand why she thinks that.........

Ian DJ - Thanks for that info on the new movie. I remember hearing some of those details before now, and I really cannot wait to see it! I hope it isn't the end of ST though. In fact I would have thought that the last movie and the Enterprise series would have been the end, yet obviously not thank goodness. I'm not sure where else they could go with it though to be honest. They're going back further and further in time, which is great, but they can only go so far. I guess the next way forward would be to jump to beyond the time of Voyager.

John - Ok well I have looked into B5 now since writing my last post in this thread. I had a look through photos of the cast and can't honestly say I remember seeing any of it before, even though I thought I had watched a few episodes at first. I remember a stunning looking young lady as a main character but I don't know who that could have been from the cast list I saw. I guess it's getting old now, much like ST:TNG, so I probably won't make the effort to watch it. As you and others have said, I'd have to watch it from the start to really appreciated and understand it.

Steve - I know what you mean about the main story line of Voyager, but that is partly what put me off that series. I felt that sometimes it was repetitive with roughly the same old stories, and you always knew that they wouldn't achieve their goal of getting home because it wasn't the end of the series. :) The last few episodes were extremely good though, I loved them, full of action and of course anything involving the Borg was always good.

Oh T'Pol, yes that's her name. No I can't think why your Wife thought you liked it just because of her and 7of9 at all. ;)

I'm a big fan of Star Trek as well.

If I was on the same ship as 7 of 9 I don't think I'd be able to concentrate!

Just wish they'd come out with a new version just for tv.

TNG... what can ya say? 'Best of both worlds' parts 1 & 2.:clap::clap:

Oh yes I 100% agree, they were probably the best episodes and I've watched them many times. :D
