Brock's father says his son only got twenty minutes of action and shouldn't have to go to jail.

It shows you what money can buy - 'good' lawyers and leniency.

Any right thinking person would have protected the girl instead of attacking and raping her.

Her statement (long -twenty minutes? - but worth reading) :

There has long been a problem in the US with college jocks getting away with sexual assaults/rapes due to the sort of attitude displayed by the father displayed by coaches, other athletes, colleges, parts of society etc etc. While it doesn't go anything like far enough atleast he received a punishment. (not that that makes it enough)

And many in the west criticise the objectification of women and the way they are treated in other cultures but still little changes.

The laddish culture that the father in the article perpetuates reminds me of the 'young men are expected to sow wild oats and then settle down......' but of course those same families expected their young men to marry a virtuous virgin! Talk about double standards being perpetuated down the generations.

That guy in the US should have had the book thrown at him........

its sad that someone can violate another person and get away with such a lenient punishment, when the effects both physically and mentally will last for years if not a lifetime.

and for the father to call it "20 minutes of action" should increase the punishment 10 fold.
I can understand your "tenfold" suggestion but that comment was made by the father not the defendent.

The comment was grossly offensive but peope often fail to engage their brains.

Or had the book rolled up and stuffed where the Sun don't shine... (Death by 1,000 papercuts!)

I can't believe in the twitter statement he was going on more about rib eye steak and pretzels etc, what a cock-ledoodledoo :mad:

I read that this morning first thing and it's a remarkable piece from a remarkable woman.

I agree, it's a very powerful statement from her, and very courageous to stand in open court and address it to him face to face.
I suspect she has strength and talent as yet untapped.
I hate it when rape is "prettied up" as sexual assault :(
Prisons are as full there as they are here, and he's never going to feel remorse for what he did, thus effectively pointless.

It's clear where Brock learned his respect for women from.
One wonders how many crimes the father got away with in his youth.

Wow, what a brave girl, she certainly has an inner strength that will hopefully see her through this. There are no words, I could use here, to highlight the contempt I have for both the father and son.

What i find so revolting is the fact that the rapist was given so short a sentence and "the chance to reclaim his life".
His poor victim will never have that chance.

It's almost as if she is an afterthought...

I just wonder why we are not discussing far more outrageous cases of thousands of women raped and molested in Sweden, Germany and all over Europe? The cases are being covered up in the name of political correctness!!!

What "thousands"?
There have been cases, but thousands?
You need to get a grip on your paranoia.
This a thread about a specific case, not rape in general.

Because this thread is about a specific case (of particular interest because the assailant received a lenient sentence entirely unbefitting the crime).

The cases are being covered up in the name of political correctness!!!
Clearly not that well if you know of thousands. Maybe start a separate thread, rather than trying to derail this one to go over well-covered political ground.

This thread is about a specific case and is certainly not dismissing any other cases of rape. Rape is a terrible crime, which should be punished severely, regardless of the circumstances or location.

Not to belittle your point, read the title.

It is a horrendous crime. If you want to start a new thread then go ahead.

Not defending the short sentence in the slightest, but it will always be affecting him, it will affect future relationships and employment, in fact prison will be the least of his worries. It does seem like an extremely short sentence though, can they appeal in the US for it being too lenient?

The public concern over the injustice is gaining momentum.

The change.org petition, to recall the judge, has over 1m signatures, Joe Biden has commented on the girls letter, & it's going to be read be Texas' representative, putting it 'on the record' in Congress.

The petition to The White House has also reached the point where it warrants their comment.

Brock should have his sentence increased hugely and his dad should also spend some time in jail. Let him find out how long 20 minutes of action can be when he meets his cell mate 'big bubba'.

As far as I'm aware, the Appellate court has the power to affirm, reduce, or increase the sentence upon appeal by the prosecution.
That may have changed in the last 20 years though!
