So I am working on a set of images at the moment for a bride , she wants the shadows removed from under her eyes and it is a time consuming process to get right as anyone who has tried will know, dodge and burn techniques are just wrong and look awful , the Patch tool can do an OK job but the best i have found is using curves targetted at the shadows and lightened areas and inverted paint through mask technique which leaves in the texture of the original but still lightens the shadows. Dont know whether anyone else knows a better technique ?

Then i came across this, just this morning
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/n...g-official-photographs-released-31365066.html

its going round facebook too a much larger version, a quick look at her face reveals a completely apparent edit of under her eyes so much so as to have removed the colour and left almost grey patches , this is a ROYAL photograph ! does anyone else agree that the standard of edit on such an important photo or maybe even the lighting and set up in the first place would be of great importance ? The other photos in the set too whilst good are not amazing by any means from in my own opinion , what do you think ?

In regards to first question my favourite technique for under eye bags/discolouration is below. You can tweak it by changing blend modes to make it more or less subtle.

As to the second, the formal portrait is quite nice even with the overly tanned faces, the other 3 look like smartphone snaps to me in all honesty.

Seen those Royal photos the other day also thought they were from a phone

There were some other pics a week or so back that were pretty grim, lots of blown highlights and odd composition. Then there were some back last year? that had rubbish in the background.

I have looked the ones in the mail online and not really keen. They look a rushed job and with shadows in the last on direct flash. It will be interesting to see the Mails offering tomorrow in there special.
