Does anyone here dev using a stand method? What are you experiences etc? I am only asking as having a longer but less intensive method would suit my life much better!

i have used stand dev a couple of times before, i did some panF stand devved in rodinal. 1-100 rodinal for 1 hour, agitated at the 30 minute mark for 1 minute and it came out nice.
the photos come out nice and sharp with even tones, i dont tend to stand dev anything over ISO 200 because then it accentuates the grain

Thanks for that. Having looked at it the grain thing crops up frequently but it does also seem you can dev different films at the same time using this method.

You can dev pretty much any film for an hour in rodinal, but it does increase the grain, and I found would tend to underdevelop as well. The other thing to watch out for is bromide drag which gives you lines from the sprocket holes in 35mm film, but you just have to agitate a little more

I gave up in the end, 10 minutes or so isn't that long really

I have done Tri-X and Fuji Neopan 400, both rated at 400, in Rodinal for 1 hour 1:100 dilution gently agitate for the first 30 seconds, then left it for an hour.

The Tri-X was a little grainy but really ok and I like it the Neopan was great.

Check out my Flickr under the Pentax 67 and it is the Abbey ones and the Canal boat ones if your interested.

Rodinal does not have any bromide. Uneven development would be most likely due to insufficient agitation. Theoretically, only the developer in a thin boundary layer next to the film is working. We agitate to replenish that layer. But if your agitation is too smooth and laminar, the same exhausted developer can possibly wash back and forth across the film in areas causing the uneven development.

I tried numerous rolls of Tri-X stand devved in R09 and got nowhere near what I'd consider consistant results.

Most of my negs were very thin, some had massive grain.

XP2 works well in Rodinal, I've had nice results with that.

Thanks all. I think I will continue with standard developing until I can control that before trying anything new.

I used to use it all the time until I started getting really bad uneven development in the skies, with both Adox CHS films and Fuji Acros. Rodinal 1:100 or 1:150 if it was a very contrasty scene, about an hour or so and would agitate halfway through. I came to the conclusion it was insufficient agitation as I couldnt thinkwhat else it could be!

I've found uneven development with stand in Rodinal with 120 and 4x5 sheet following the typical gentle agitation profile too. And I noticed that a semi-stand process that has more agitation and less than an hour seem to always come out fine.

So I tried the one hour stand but with more agitation. I did an initial agitation at the start but instead of a really gentle agitation profile I did it "normally". Then at the 30 min and 45 min mark. The results came out much better so far on 120 roll film. There was increased grain for 400TX, slight increase for 400TMY and for 100ACR and 100TMX the grain seemed pretty normal compared to my other developer.

Here are some examples:
