stamp collecting

If they're uncancelled (ie. Unfranked) and were UK issue, sure

There is a market for them but niche.

The problem is there is no way to tell how collectible or valuable they are unless you do some serious research.

Personally as a set like that I would never use them as stamps, keep them as they are.

Sadly, what Cactus says is true. I've got a collection of first day covers from 1981; Royal Mail must do well out of me. Plus a LOT of stamps in albums.

I think the actual albums are worth more than the stamps.

In my late father's old job he used to clear out people's houses (council work) and I amassed a huge collection of stamps from the old Rhodesia, Southern Rhodesia and Nyasaland (today's Zambia, Zimbabwe and Malawi), to be told to keep them as they will be worth something when people forget about the old colonies. Imagine my disappointment when I found I could buy a complete set of the same stamps for less than £10 from a dealer - having been told how stamp dealer deals work out he would've paid less than half of that for them....
