Hi all,

Recently we inherited a stamp collection in reasonable condition.

Does anybody on here collect or have experience with them?

Thanks

Matt

You need to ask the question more polity, Matt, because as you know
Philately will get you everywhere :D

(Ok, OK, I'm off :coat: )

I did, but it was a very long time ago! What do you want to know?

Matt.
Are they British or foreign?
Are they stuck in albums.
Are they on envelopes? (first day covers)

Have you raided my dads joke Book?

Matt, help us a bit here...

Just to get a sense of what you have: Are these British or foreign stamps? What country(ies)? Current or older? Mint, used or still attached to envelopes? First Day covers? Sets, or random examples? In albums or loose? Roughly how many? Are there any notes with them? What is 'reasonable' condition (for example, hinge marks on the back of a stamp mean it's not truly mint, even if unused)?

What do you really want to get out of this? A value, for sale or insurance purposes? A direction, so that you can add to the collection?

Sadly stamp collections are only valuable if they contain rarities - like some from around 1840-1860, like the Twopenny blue.... I came across a huge stash of Southern Rhodesian stamps thinking they would be valuable becuase of the situation in the country, but no. I've been receiving first day covers from Royal Mail since 1981 and have a large collection, having spent a lot of my pocket money to build it, yet I think a dealer would offer me a paltry amount if I wanted to sell it. Sorry if this doesn't sound encouraging but it would be best if you found someone (are there forums called TalkPhilately?) who was after stamps in the collection then I am sure you'll get a better offer if you are looking to sell...

Hi guys, I have lots of penny Reds, some old 3p, 6p stamps etc. I have some pics to upload in next few days, lots of foreign stuff too
