I have recently been introduced to the concept of stacking pictures to achieve a certain result.

The 3 applications that I am aware of so far are macro, star trails and finally deep space photography.

I have had a play with star trails and have managed a couple of proof of concept pictures.
I tried to use the same star trails stacking program for a macro work with no success.

Do the 3 different diciplines require 3 different software packages to get the required results?

Dave

Basically yes as they are totally different from each other, yes the are all called stacking but that because your making a single image from a stack of files on top of each other..

If you want to stack star trails by far and the best software is StarStaX and its totally free it's funded via donation which I encourage people to do as it's truly excellent software

Thanks, got star trails sorted now. Can anyone recommend a program for macro?

Dave

for macro I have used Helicon Focus in the past, which was good

Another one for Helicon Focus. IIRC you get a 30 day trial period beforeyou have to register

Photoshop does focus / exposure stacking - not sure about elements.
