I was aiming for a Crucial MX100 but is the MX200 worth the £35 more?
What about the Samsungs, they appear to have similar benchmarks to the MX100 but at about £10 more.
Not sure if the MX200's fast boot time (5s) is translated into using it in the real world on Photoshop/Lightroom.
 
which ever you choose the difference between real world performance of all the ssd's will be a few microseconds.
 
I went for the Samsung 850 evo's. Been excellent for me. Just don't get too small a sized one. I had 250gb and had to upgrade to 500's. I have two computers with them in.
 
just get samsung, crucial or corsair SSD's and you will be fine :) they all fast :)
 
I have always used Samsungs and never had an issue with them.
 
I've got Plexstor, Samsung, Sandisk, OCZ and Crucial. Can't tell the difference between any of them in real-world use.
 
A lot of the SSD performance can vary depending on which chipset you are using, so benchmarks are only a rough guideline.

Dont forget older computers may only have SATA 1 or SATA 2 controller, which means you wont get the full performance from the new SATA 3 drive.

My current pc is only sata2 so it wont be flat out but looking for either a Dell 7000 or M3800. To add a 512gb drive with Dell is the same cost as buying a 1tb drive yourself. The intention is to add the ssd then, when I have +£700, to buy and upgrade a Dell
 
I've had a Samsung 840 EVO (250Gb) since 2013 with no problems whatsoever. At the time it was one of the best reviewed SSDs. I'd go Samsung again.

Looking at either those models - its looks fairly straight forward to replace the HDD. Therefore you would be better one buying one separately and putting it in afterwards. You can always put the HDD that comes with the dell into a USB caddy afterwards.

If you dont go for either of the those models above, double check how easy it to change the hard drive. I have a dell inspirion laptop, which I bought a couple of years ago and there is no easy way to take hard drive out, other than disassemble the whole laptop, and take out the motherboard, and the hard drive is mounted on the back of the that!!

I think that design was done on purpose to be honest - however I did manage to swap out the HDD for a SSD - and now my laptop boots into Win7 in under 8 secs!! :)

I replaced my wife's Thinkpad laptop 500GB HDD with a 250GB Bx100, runs much better all round. I highly recommend the Bx100.

Personally, I'll always buy Crucial SSD's. I've no problems with 64GB C300, no problems with 128GB M4 and now no problems so far with 250GB Bx100. The very first generation 32GB Samsung wasn't great in my user experience.
 
I failed to win my first one on Ebay yesterday. MX100 512GB - Amazon new £144 Ebay second hand £165?? Am I missing something:thinking:
