Squirrels stopped coming to garden.

We have 2 squirrels that come to our garden, but they havn't been here for over 2 weeks. I read somewhere that they don't hibernate. Is there a reason other than the cold etc may have killed them?
 
Cars, people, other animals could have killed them.
Although it is much more likely that they have found somewhere else that offers food, and they are taking and burying their food at the moment.

Before Xmas, we hadn't seen our squirrel for months! But just before Xmas he came to the garden. And we know it's him as he is sooooo friendly.

Both ours are easily recognisable. The one has one eye & the other is multi coloured, here.. We are the place they came for, for their food.

I know for a fact they they havn't gone on holiday, as Ryan Air have stopped winter flights in Bournemouth.:p
 
Is there a new pet in the vicinity? A new cat may be a squirrel hunter and a new dog may enjoy chasing them. Even a new smell from a visiting animal over christmas could put the squidgers off.
