I received a Tamron 90mm VC USD today that I bought second hand. Optically it seems good (thought I have no point of comparison) but the manual focus ring squeaks every time I turn it, across the whole range. Is this something I should be concerned about?

Sample shot I just took. I love this thing already :)

doesn't sound right to me. I'd be worried that it's just been sold on because someone thought the focus was going to fail. I'd have thought if that particular lens normally made that kind of sound there'd be loads of internet threads about it.

It shouldn't squeak.

It might be fine. But I would return it just to be sure.

Thanks all. I bought the lens on Ebay, hopefully the return process won't be too painful.

It shouldn't be. eBay protects very well the buyers.
Just contact the seller informing him what's happening and open a case.

Good luck.

The lens may not have been used for a while and needs loosening up. Give it a good workout and see if it improves. Otherwise return for a refund.

If I'm offered a partial refund, should I take it? Any suggestion as to what a reasonable price would be with this issue?

From looking and listening to youtube videos, the sound is not a metal on metal sound, but a plastic squeak. My expectation is there's some small particle stuck between the manual focus ring and the area it's rotating over.

If this has something under the focus ring it will probably only get worse, check to see if its still under warrenty, otherwise ask for full refund,

Do you want to take the risk?
