spyware removal

An updated Malwarebyte's AntiMalware gets rid of most nastys, although a lot of spyware are wise to this and stop it from downloading/installing/updating/all of the above.

It often needs spyware processes to be stopped in the first place with something like RKill.exe first.

The fact that a lot of malware stops you accessing the Internet to download these in the first place means it's a good idea to have them downloaded already, just in case.
 
I use Asquared and Malwarebytes (both free)

The free online scanner from FSecure is also useful.

If you are happy doing a bit more work yourself and OK about deleting registry entries then HijackThis is good.

Have to agree on MBAM - it's so good we bought 10 full licenses.

Make sure you run an AV check afterwoulds aswell!

as I have SAS in my Downloads folder - with shortcut on Desktop - is there a tech reason to have it available on flash drive as well

could have sworn I posted a message that hasnt appeared?

Anyway ran malware, that found a couple, but so far spybot is still finding more. will continue to run more than one.

keep your suggestions and tips coming though

If MBAM can't remove the infection, don't try and remove it yourself unless you really understand what you're doing. (Unless you like having a large paperweight of course.)

Joking aside, prevention is far better than removal. Especially when it doesn't matter if you remove the malware because they're holding your data to ransom by encrypting it.

Where it mentions "drive-by download" in that report, it means the user simply needs to visit the questionable website in order to be infected; no clicking at accept the rogue files, it just jumps across to your PC. Then it encrypts your data preventing you from accessing any of it until you pay a ransom fee.

Unless you have up-to-date backups stored away from your PC, quite frankly you're screwed.
 
I use Malwarebytes and Superantispyware, Hitman Pro is also ment to be quite good.
 
Malwarebytes is extremely good, it is definitely (edit: one of..) THE BEST software around to remove most of nasty stuff around (and is also free).

For all these hard to remove nasties from PC, you may wish to boot your windows into Safe mode and then run full Malwarebytes scan. It is unlikely something will slip through Malwarebytes scan this way.
