Spyder or Huey

I can only speak for the huey, which I have and am very happy with. It is quite a lot smaller than the spider and monitors the ambient room lighting which the spider does not do. I'm yet to decide if this is actually useful or gimmicky. Sometimes I think it's useful and other times not although most of the time I don't notice it which I suppose is a good thing.

I would say neither of those but go for a Gretag Macbeth Eye-One display LT or Gretag Macbeth Eye-one display 2, I found them to be more accurate than the spyder.

Can't comment on the Huey but agree with mho that I too found the Gretag Macbeth Eye-one display 2 more accurate than Spyder.

I spent a wee while looking at these devices, settled on the eye one LT in the end.

the only difference between the eye one and the LT versions is the software. When you buy the LT and register it....it just happens to allow you to download the latest version of the eye one software

worked a treat on my tft and laptop screens :)

Eye One 2 is the one to go for ...

Am I right in thinking that without an expensive add on the Eye One 2 doesn't do printer profiles?

the Eye-one display 2 doesnt do printer profiles at all.

the Eye-One Pro will but you will have to manually hand read the outputs and the software it uses isnt the best.

For a top quality profile you need a Spectrophotometer and a piece of software something like Gretag Macbeth Profilemaker 5 Studio Pro or X-rites MonacoProfiler Gold or Platinum, Spectrophotometers are approx £1K upwards and the software £1.5K upwards.

A slight diversion, but as my monitor is 4-5 years old, might a new monitor be a better buy first of all - I hear they can 'go off' with time, so a new one might lessen my need for a calibrator at present...???
